Although I see you're champing at the bit to score the 09's, I take a slightly different approach. There are going to be plenty of them around, and I'll have months to choose. Since the older (even only very slightly older) cakes command a much higher price, I'll concentrate on stocking 08's while they're still around and cheap.

I agree, but I hear that the freshly made menghai cakes are extremely potent and give you a tea high.

i agree with tony,

in fact, if you can get your hands on older tea cakes, it would be better.
1999-2001 stuff would be nice. at least by that time, you can really tell if they are worth buying. its pretty hard to tell if new cakes would turn out good without even a year or more so a month out. and there's no worse scenario 15-20 years from now than to be stuck with tongs of mediocre cakes that you have so much of and end up preferring better stuff.

i actually have some stuff that i dont want or am not sure that its a right buy, but i guess thats tuition fee, luckily i just got a few cakes and not a tong. i understand each has their own budget, but i think with these kinds of things, the key really is to buy really good stuff and not bang for the buck.

i was always advised to buy at least 3 year cakes, because at 3 years, you can already tell if it will probably turn out to be good or not.

just my opinion, peace!

That's a big piece of leaf! Looks like a plantation one though, from the small veins on it. I wonder what kinda steroids they pump into the tree to mutate the leaf to that size.

I think that is just normal, I have 2 year old camellia's, one is a chinese and one is assam. The assmam which is the vartiety in yunnan has leaves on it that are about 4 inches long. And the plants only about 1.5 ft.

I corresponded with Scott earlier this week and it seems that he is in the process of doing inventory and expects to make some major purchases of the other 09 teas very soon.

good to know. All of these cakes coming in is making my mouth water. And so far the prices have been quite good, so hopefully that is sign of the future ahead.

Some Mengku porn to whet your appetites.

Some Menghai Dayi porn. I'm pretty worried about the liquor colors of the two cakes :? The first is an expensive Nu'ercha cake (similar to their 08 500g Bulang cake in presentation and wrapper), and the second is the Dayi Silver Peacock which hasn't been released in a couple years.

Just to make sure I'm on the same page... the second one looks rather pale. The first... well, sort of hard to tell w/ that blue symbol in the bottom of the cup, but the leaves look awfully toasty or something...?

I wasn't talking about the Mengku cakes at all, though those leaves look tweaked/overoxidized/wilted. Rather, I was talking about both Dayi liquor colors- there's more than one cake in each link I posted. The first Dayi liquor looks like water, and the second looks to be more like a yiwu pale rosey color.

Yeah, the Menghai raids begin! I'm not interested in the peacock series but this is a sign that the others are on there way. The price looks good too. Besides some menghai cakes, here is what my order looks like so far, any thoughts?

http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-Mengku-Bamboo- ... _trkparms= Possibly 2 of these.
http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-Mengku-Jade-De ... _trkparms=
http://cgi.ebay.com/2008-Mengku-981007- ... _trkparms=

On top of these I plan about 2 of each, the Menghai 8582 and 7542 blends. Those Mengku bricks just look to be quite good.
