Matcha is not the same, the flkavour is diffrent with each, and some great koicha can be as tasty as chocklate, I like it but the one I like are rare treats, because they are over my budget, and I don`t like to buy two cans a matcha a month and nothing else.

When I have matcha I can do up to four bowls a day. I'm pretty crazy about the stuff. If I'm out of the stuff I seek it in smoothie-form which is a very yummy alternative in the summer time :D

I'm happy to report that after drinking matcha for 3 days in a row in the late afternoon, I have not had any nausea. I even drank 2 bowls, one after the other, yesterday afternoon. It's fun to prepare it. I wonder if Oni's chocolate tasting matcha is dark or milk chocolate?

I find myself really liking matcha and having it once or twice daily when I am home and feel like settling down and going through my slight ritual (no experience with real tea ceremony) preparation.

A question, not in hijacking style, but I don't know that this warrants a full-on thread: what do you do with the small quantity of matcha left in the can at the end? I'm still trying to figure this out. Tempted to slosh some water around in it and pour it into a water bottle or smoothie or something, just so it isn't wasted, but... suggestions?

Sprinkle it on ice cream!! I showed up at a green tea event with ice cream (i show up a lot of places with ice cream to be quite honest) and a lovely lady in a kimono came up and sprinkled it on top of my chocolate ice cream and it was heavenly...or you could make this recipe http://www.latimes.com/features/food/la ... 9633.story

dont forget to overnight me some!!

I don't dislike the flavor and I like the ritual. But, I find it difficult to understand why anyone who knows Chinese tea and drinks it daily, would prefer matcha. It's sort of like sake compared to good wine. It's okay once in awhile, but to pay the same amount for a sake as a great vintage wine is unimaginable to anyone who has been exposed to both drinks.
A lot of people have this problem with Matcha and Gyokuro, even Shincha because they're all so strong. Heck, I even get a little nauseous when I do QA tastings (so I *try* to do them after lunch, usually). Do you drink these on an empty stomach?
Matcha is usually served with a sweet or 'chanoko', partially to prevent this nausea.

I mix it with sea salt and eat it with my eggs. I found the recipe on the Breakaway Chef blog, and it is awesome.

Matcha isn't really known for low amounts of caffeine.

Right you are...but the theanine acts as an "offsetter". Fortunately for me, matcha is sooooo calming for me and calming is a good thing!!!

The same thing just happened to me, on top of spraying half my kitchen green(don't ask...) :)

I don't know but I seem to react rather strongly to greens of all kinds, having been a black-tea-with-milk person all my life. I also get this sensation of being warmed from within which I've wondered about. I've read about green tea increasing the thermogenesis but I've never heard of anyone actually being able to feel it..?

Haha. I can imagine the kitchen!

Made some matcha in the late afternoon today and got nauseous again. It must have something to do with not having some food before it, at least in my case. I can get past the nausea, but, I'm not sure if I like it that much to try. I much prefer sriracha to matcha. It's also a lot cheaper and readily available here. For me, this is not a drink to sit and savor, not after having discovered Chinese teas. It's sort of like Ovaltine. When I was a kid, I thought I should drink it but I really didn't like it. Now, Gyokuro otoh, is a whole different thing. That is a good tea worth getting to know. No nasuea for me. Sawatdee khrap

But you don't drink it I hope

Anyway, I made a new bowl just now to compensate for this morning's debacle.

The smell reminds me of blueberry soup. Hopefully I won't have any reaction this time..

Yes.

I've heard that it is known as the "Cappuccino of teas".

Seriously -- I really lol'd.

This topic is great. Just finished a big bowl of matcha as I read thru all of your wonderful sharings.

Tead - my sweetheart gets a little nausea with matcha, and says it reminds her of wheatgrass. Wheatgrass is very detoxing (if you have any body art, ie tats, if you drink wheatgrass regularly the ink will fade big time). Don't know if this is true of matcha. I've heard of course that matcha is very healthful, but haven't yet heard of it as a detoxifier. But I wonder. Additionally, alternative therapy folks say that the nausea that goes with wheatgrass is a sign of it's detoxing process. Not saying whether that's true or not, just passing it along.

Anyway I love it. And I love the paraphernalia!

I drink 1-2 bowls a day in the morning; and I find I really like it with food. Several years ago I tried matcha, and it didn't capture me like gyokuro, shizuoka sencha, and then pre-rain dragonwell, baochong oolong, anxi oolong, etc.

But recently, I went to my favorite tea shop, sat at the tea bar, and was moved to have a bowl of matcha with a morsel of mochi. Wow! The combined sweetness and savoriness of this particularly inspired mochi and the matcha together - heaven! :P

So, I find that I prefer my matcha mostly with food, and typically with breakfast.
But it's great with some really good quality dark chocolate in the early afternoon too.

And I haven't tried sprinkling on ice cream yet - but I will now! Now I know what to do with the dregs in an empty can! Yay! :)

... I've got to be a matcha!
