Let's see, some Hagi coming my way! And Bizen Houjin.
Began the TeaDay with Takumi Shincha which came out very delicious. SweeTea agreed, Pyrit, TEAh, Wulong, Ceylon, and Gandalf all stopped by to say good morning.
I was looking at this set, Olivier. I hope you enjoy it!

Sarah Glad to hear your fathers feeling a little better today. He must be a stong man. I couldn't even imagine how it would feel to lose sight.
Maybe teaware this week
Its killing me but I think I have to buy some more tea storage canisters from rishi. I don't like spending my tea money on stuff like that but I just don't feel confident in mason jars or ziplock baggies

Also because this is all black tea I found cheap and thought I could store it for next year so I could save $ in the long run but now I don't think this will be the case because of the storage issues.
I was hopeing to buy some more puerh this week but who knows.
Earl grey in my cup this morning

I am sooooo tea-fickle.
I haven't really drank any straight-up black tea in ages other than Darjeeling, which I don't even count as black. After reading the thread on yunnans... I dug out my sample tin of Yunnan Noir.
OMG.

I had either forgotten or never fully appreciated how absolutely good this is! Time to explore the Dark Side again.
This is why I love variety in my tea... coming back to something like this is so refreshing, and I enjoy it SO much more than if I had it every day. Familiarty, contempt, etc.
***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

I sure will!
I was surprised to get it at such a low price (less than half of my max bid), especially if you compare it to the houhin sets sold by hibiki-an or horaido which cost 100$ and more without the yusamashi. Auctions ending a few days before the end of the month are usually less expensive.
Kame Jiru Shi gyokuro to end the day.

Is that Kame in your "new/old" Houjin? Yeah, I saw it was a really good buy, congrats! I hope to see more like it soon.

I just found some tencha I had completely forgotten about. I put it somewhere safe, must be 6+ months ago, to try a grinding experiment with and just found it a few minutes ago.
Couldn't wait to resume the grinding experiment so it's been stuck in a kyusu immediately and decanted into a chawan - seemed appropriate for this inbetweeny tea. The result is fantastic, I didn't expect much after this length of time in not exactly hermetic storage facilities. Smooth and mellow, a very nice change from the sae midori shincha I've been drinking recently.
Someone must have heard me putting on a sad face at the beginning of this thread and made sure I found something good

No, in my shiboridashi.
I didn't find the time to thoroughly clean my new old houhin.

No tea or teaware on the way

I did buy some nice clothes yesterday though...not that I really had money for that either but I really needed them.

I was not expecting any tea or tea ware in the next week, but I did get a new tea cup today. I visited the Westcott Art Trail and met with Bill at Split-Fire Pottery. I ended with two teacups, one for me and one to give as a gift to a friend, a few bars of wonderful smelling soap, and a necklace to give to my mother as a birthday present. It was awesome to see all the different artwork and talk with the artists.
Currently, I am enjoying a sample of Ying De via Victoria. I think it is a black tea, given the look of the leaves and the taste. It is surprisingly good given that I am not quite sure what it is.
Our peonies are in full bloom so I thought they would go nicely with my new cup.

Thanks for sharing the peony. They won't grow in Florida so I don't get to see them much outside of Chinese art and decoration.

"90's Tuo" got you down? The affordable every day puerh of your dreams is finally here.
OK, now I have something on order. Also, I received a notice that I have a package from China to pick up at the PO, so I guess I had something else on order.

I've been drinking formosa gunpowder green today, it's pretty basic but quite enjoyable anyway.
The Ying De is a lovely red tea from China, one of my favourites!

Great, so you met one of our new TeawareArtisans!!! And scored some teaware.
Next up was Kunpu shincha from Den's, just a really lovely asamushi and very traditionally picked on the 88th night. DW joined me this time around.

Question for the board--
How long does tea "last?"
I have relatives who were in the military and who brought back several large metal canisters of oolong tea. The tea has to be at least 45-50 years old, because I know when they were stationed in Okinawa and Japan. They only drink tea occasionally (being coffee people) so it's lasted all this time. Growing up I had the occasional cup of it while visiting, and as best I can recall, it tasted ok.
Is it safe to drink? I know Pu Erh tea can be kept for a long time, but what about oolong? The cans were always in the back of the pantry, a cool, dark place. The leaves were dry, no mold or dampness.
Any thoughts?
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

and the peony and your cup are beautiful!
