My camera has water vapor in it from when I went to humid south america. There are "foggy" spots that come out in the pictures..It's too embarassing to post pictures compared to these fabu cameras.Ebtoulson wrote:Hahah my thoughts exactly...my camera just sucks thoughsriracha wrote:I really need to get a camera...these threads are killing me![]()

Heh, most of my shots are just store shots ever since I got this fab Vista
computer, I have not been able to transfer photos from my camera. I may be a bit of an ungeek in this realm, but it should not be this hard...
Anywho, my fave teapot today ... I love this Tokoname Kyusu by Kenji who speciallizes in Nericome and "nicks". This one is a beautiful deox firing, no colors were added. The 2 tone coloration is caused by the firing only.

On my list
Chip's beautifully textured Tokoname kyusu is on my list of teaware to eventually purchase. This one is as well:

Artistic Nippon sells this Tokoname kyusu. The potter's name is Kenji. I am sure other vendors have it, but not many.bonjiri wrote:chip

I should get a commission for each TCer who bought this kyusu, there are a bunch.

It is not only beautiful, but is the most functional kyusu I have ever had the pleasure of using. Oh, and it feels sooooo cool...

Re: On my list
This appears to achieve a similar color effect as the Kenji through deox firing as well. I hope you are able to get it soon.Intuit wrote:Chip's beautifully textured Tokoname kyusu is on my list of teaware to eventually purchase. This one is as well:

Here's my favorite:

I couldn't get a good photo of mine this morning, so I borrowed this pic from englishteastore.com. It is a "Brown Betty," made in England.
She is excellent for big-leaf blacks like Nilgiri Handmade, because there's lots of room for the leaf to expand. The only drawback is that there's no screen or filter, so I have to use a strainer, and there's a nub on the lid so you can't put an infuser basket inside. A small sacrifice for excellent tea!

I checked with the EnglishTeaStore website to check on their Brown Betty availability. Still not in stock, after a hiatus of many months due to product production issues (glaze crazing). The 'store' also didn't have a strainer for this teapot.
As an alternative, you may try buying an inexpensive deep metal wire strainer and carefully bending it at the top to the desired shape with pliers. I have done this for my chatsford pots, even bending the metal handle to fit the dwell of the lid so that the strainer can sit in the pot with the teapot lid in place.

Good idea, Intuit!
I broke the lid on mine and the company I got it from (Strand Tea) sent me a new one, it almost fits the pot, but the nub on the lid keeps it from fitting. (this also prevented me from using an infuser basket) I'm going to try to sand or Dremel the nub off and if that works, the lid will fit AND I can use the basket I have. Win-Win.

Mine came from Strand Tea. I wonder if their stock is pre-crazing problem? My pot isn't showing any sign of glaze problems, but then I don't use it constantly either. I don't know what it is about my Brown Betty, but using it is very comforting, maybe it's my English-Irish-Scottish DNA!Intuit wrote:I checked with the EnglishTeaStore website to check on their Brown Betty availability. The cup is a newbie. More on that later in the Hagi topic.
