If I had any money left after tea, I would probably be collecting all kinds of lenses and gear, from HD video to vintage film. A Canon 5d Mk II has been calling me for weeks now.

Found the parameters for the perfect cup of yutaka midori shincha today...:)

I collected more as a child, pez dispensers and stamps, then books as a teenager/young adult..moving really discourages hording. After moving my huge book collection for the 3rd time in 5 years I came to the realization that I don't go back to books as much as I think I would. Moving/having the room to store them is often more trouble than it is worth. I donate my books now to the New York Public Library during book drives so they can sell them to finance progreams. That makes me feel better than book shelves full of books I never reread.

[*BOO*/moan]I had some beautiful signed art books I had to sell when I first got ill this year for rent money. Now that I'm better I am a bit sad about this especially since my illness coincided with the recession and the "bottom fell out of the book market" according to the guy at Strand Books. He told me I would have gotten a lost more for them if it had only been months earlier[/*BOO*/moan]...oh well spilt milk.

Good morning. Started the day with Fuka Supreme and it was super!
Looking forward to the 2nd tea of the day already.

I am a collector of a very eclectic mix of things!
I also collect books, this seems to be a common theme on TeaDay today.

Purposely I have been collecting a certain horror author's offerings since 1979!
I have signed limited editions as well as a full set of his original newsletter... CastleRock, complete w/notations by SK.
Another favorite book genre is True Crime. Yes, I believe the count is now over 400...

Seashells are another collection, that began on Hatteras Island and continued on to Sanibel Island. I only collect shells that I find.

And of course...CATZ =^.^=!

For now, let's leave it at that. But, there are a few things that the Mod and I collect together, he may expound on that if he so desires. :!:

I am not a collector.
But I do own a piece of Bone China. It is a cup with infuser basket from Hankook. It was a nice gift from my sister in law. It is so light and thin.
"You want the taste of dried leaves in boiled water?"

"Er, yes. With milk."

"Squirted out of a cow?"

"Well, in a manner of speaking I suppose ..."

>I'm a cactus freak:I grow a lot of cacti and read a lot about these.

I also have a longtime penchant for plants, especially the Cactaceae. You must find and purchase the encyclopedic authority, N.L. Britton and J.N. Rose, The Cactaceae (first print 1920, affords a marvelous historical perspective).

Excellent cactus literature list: http://www.cascadecss.org/resources/library.htm

~

Finally detached from my collecting urges. My acquisitive nature has been directed towards solving very large and important problems, for some time now. I collect facts.

Tiger Hill OP this morning, one of my favs.

Over the years, I have had "collections," though I would not really call myself a collector of various "things" including oddities such as megaladon teeth, boomerangs, coins, knives, Chinese dragons, books, and various plant types including Japanese Maples and rare succulents from Africa.

I think I was most serious about the succulents, specializing in the highly diversified genus Euphorbia. We had a large greenhouse full of 100's of species, 1000's of plants, and I did some breeding of Crown of Thorn species of Euphorbia. I found this very enjoyable in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, but incredibly stressful in the Winter when the winds would howl through the forests and temps would plummet. Throw in snow and ice storms and I got a lot of sleepless nights.

Then one night my worst fears were realized when the temp dropped below 0*F, the heater failed and the temp in the greenhouse dropped so low, killing ever single plant. And now I do not collect them anymore ... nor would I in this climate.

Began the TD with Fukamushi Supreme from O-Cha. Very good as always. SweeTea had her fil while TEAh, Koi, and Wulong visited the TeaTable.

I too am a book collector

Leaving those aside, what is there? I have an embarrassment of chadougu, items for tea ceremony. What's worse, I keep unnecessarily adding to them. May have to do a destash one of these days...

There's also an accumulation of badgers - badger-themed things, that is - although I'm not really collecting them any more. (Eurobadger, Meles meles, please note - not the American Taxidea taxus.)

Image

Last but not least, I am a sucker for a beautifully made Buddha statue, esp. when it's made using the lost-wax method of the Shakya clan of Patan, Nepal.

Matcha coming up!

I used to collect succulents/cacti for a few years even though I still have the collection and enjoy them very much I gave up because I plan on moving around a lot in the future when I leave for college. I banned myself from garden centers. If anyone lives close to me in ohio and enjoy plants I would love to give some away but because I have had them so long there like pets so Im trying to find people interested in them.

In the past I have collected about everything to list a few; rocks, old bottles, Indian relics, coins,NES games, beanie babys, pokemon cards, magic the gathering cards, scorpions(yes real ones) and the list just goes on and on. Maybe all this previous collecting and the idea of moving around in my future have made me so I don't collect anything except books. I don't collect books on purpose I just love to read and never get rid of old books unless I give them to friends.

Tea and books must go together well, it seems most teachaters like reading/collecting books hmmm... maybe a book thread/topic could work

Mrs. Chip, in the mid-80s my husband wrote a letter to SK about his book 'Danse Macabre' and was surprised to get a hand-written postcard back. I thought it was very nice that he got a personal response!

No tea yet, but I tried some iced Portland Blend from Strand Tea. I didn't like it much hot so tried iced, but I like it even less in iced form - it's going to be heading down the drain!

Yeah, he is way cool that way. Back in early 80's I had a ganglion cyst removed from my wrist and somehow  his secretary/SIL Stephanie got wind of that so I have a really nice getwell postcard from him too! I have some really obscure items too.... like 1 book, german edition that came in a crate!

Just brewed some of that tea...Kukicha w/Matcha that DH hasn't had yet.
MMMMMM Good

I'm no collector in the strict sense but the collector gene is alive and well in me, anything that could be said to have 'variations on a theme' will awaken it, be it orchids, Royal Krona glass candle holders or flip-flops.

I have collected different things over the years, at different periods of my life; stamps(specifically colorful ones with pictures of tropical fish) and scraps as a kid...horse-themed things from the time I was into riding...

Chippendale silver cutlery...I hope I'll one day have enough to lay a table with them!

Right now it's anime DVDs and figurines. Rei/Asuka statues and characters from Type-Moon's works.

Chopsticks of the cheap and cheerful variety, mostly plastic, which I keep in a tall retro-looking glass in the kitchen.

Today I made two cups of Hou De's Yunnan Gold for breakfast.

Brad - vitually every state has a cactus collector society or two with websites, blogs and For Sale/Wanted ads. You can find good homes for your collection there.

Can empathize with Chip and his Euphorbia collection. I had a large cactus collection, specializing in Ferocactus, Mammalaria, Rhipsalis and the African desert (not true cactus) Stapelia when I lived in the deep South. When I had to relocate to a location that was completely unsuitable for plants, I gave my collection away to a large arboretum that featured a very large cactus greenhouse.

Thinking about an oolong before I get busy.

Hummmm I guess my fragrances count as a collection. I never really thought of them that way. But I have quite a vast amount of fragrances. In there are also many unique and rare things like vintage Chanel No 5 bottles and Evening in Paris collectibles. Also some advertising tin signs for fragrance related items.

I love clocks and have a collection of miniature clocks.

A small collection of Foo Dogs.

Both my cousin and myself have always collected heart motif items since we were kids, but I would not really call that a collection, just a thing in our family.

In my cup this morning Adagio '08 Spring Darjeeling.

Have a nice day everyone!
