Re: Official/Different Yixing Show Off Topic!
Here's a pot I bought in 2004, but haven't used yet. When I first saw it, I wasn't thrilled about it, but the more I looked at it, the more it grew on me until I had to buy it. I believe it's the only teapot I have with a teapot on it. I'm prepping it now and will be using it for new Shengpu.

Love the lid IPT, and it is cool with the pot on the pot. I like it!
Nice replacement pot Luthier, the pic looks like steam is coming out. Is that a reflection?

Size: 530ml
Clay: Hongqingshuini
Shape: Dragon Egg
Age: 2006
This pot pours like a cannon going off. I usually do not go for larger teapots, but I loved the carving on this so much. I collect pieces from the artisans. The wife makes the pots and the husband carves them. The Zisha is ok, but not exceptional, but I just love their carvings. I'd hate to know how many of their pots I have.

Re: How NOT to fix a Yixing pot.
Oh NO! Well, she is still a bute! Its'a all about the clay right and ultimately the tea! Cherish her!tingjunkie wrote:Here is a lesson in how not to fix a Yixing pot.![]()
I purchased this pot recently from a friend and collector. I knew she wasn't at all pretty right from the beginning- chipped spout, loose lid fit, ugly rough slip cast clay on the bottom, slip cast clay in the lid hole creating a slow pour, white water marks all around the lid and top, BUT the pot is from the late 60's - early 70's, and the price was a little more than a song, so what the hell.
I got her home, took some fine steel wool to the water marks, and within minutes the pot was starting to look a lot better. Gaining a little confidence, I decided to take out my trusty pin vise and tiny drill bit, and attack the slip-cast clogged lid hole. Unbelievably, I managed to slowly drill the lid hole out and the pour became a whole lot faster and better, with fewer drips. Now I'm riding high, and a little full of myself... this is turning out to be a great return on my small investment. I should have stopped while I was ahead, but... who really ever does that? I decided to try and smooth the newly expanded hole with a very tiny round file, and ... CRACK! Busted the darn lid knob in two.
Not sure If you can tell from this pic, but the pot is actually made from purple clay, and only slip-cast in zhuni.
Boy did I feel like an idiot. As you can see in the pics, I managed to epoxy the knob and reattach it to the pot with some JB Weld- it's non-toxic, rated to over 600 deg F, and is 100% waterproof. I'm sure it will hold for a very long time, but still, this poor pot exists for four decades before I got it, and within 3 hours of me owning it, it's broken.

Style: Shui Pin
Clay: Zi ni inside, zhuni outside. Med fired.
Size: 150 ml
Hole: Single
Age/Year: Late 60's - Early 70's.
Walls: Med-Thick
Pour: +/- 7 sec. Some drips. Loose lid fit.
Tea Pairing: Young Sheng Puer
Effect on Tea: The good news is that despite all its flaws, this pot handles young sheng very well. It really cuts way back on astringency, while not muting the underlying flavors too much to make the tea boring. It also rounds the mouthfeel quite a bit. She's bruised and battle-worn, but I think I'll keep her around!

What is that stand/burner in the back? Does it use alcohol? Please tell me about it. Your set-up is really, really cool. I like it muchly.
Re: Official/Different Yixing Show Off Topic!
I recieved my shipment of four yixings today. I decided to spend less on this because I have spent the big bucks on my Japanese wares
Here is one. I will capture an interesting pic when I get time. I recall my first yixing purchase about 10 years ago was from Holy Mountain Teas and the pot came in a beautiful box. I'm still using the pot today and while I'm certain it isn't very special, it seemed like it at the time. These pots came in cardboard type boxes, which I was suprised. Not the fabric covered and fabric lined box like I'd gotten from HM. I'd love to hear feed-back about the information I received about the pot. You won't hurt my feelings because I am really trying to learn from my mistakes:
"From Fudong township of Yixing in Jiangsu province. This clay comes from an older mine that was mined out in the 1980's, clay is kept and sold by the township itself to raise funds. This is a porous clay of exquisite quality with a high degree of crystallization".
Mining area: Fudong township of Yixing city
Kiln temperature: approx. 950 C.
Contraction: approx. 45%-55%.
[Product Name] Xi Shi teapot (with certificate of authenticity)

A first teapots are always special I think.
Could we see some more photos? Perhaps of the bottom seal and the interior lid?
I've always had a fondness for that shape.

I know that company well and have a few of their pieces. They were very popular here in 2004. They had some great new ideas for teapots, but they have since vanished. I think that their new designs and ideas might have put off the traditionalists here. I'll do some more research to see if I can't find out what happened to them.
