Hmmm.
Her taste is becoming a bit rococo, if you ask me

HA! I rather like that one, yes, a nice large size!
I will bequeath my cups only to a knight in shining armor who is a member of the Oolongonian table.

I bought this a couple months ago, but used it for just the second time yesterday. The red/green contrast is kind of interesting...

Very photogenic subject but also very nicely photographed. Is that window light coming from the front right? on a black counter or table or floor? Thanks for sharing it.

Nope, a halogen lamp

A little harsh w/ the direct lighting. Probably would be best to use a big white diffuser shield but hey, ya work with what ya got... And a granite countertop, works well for shooting tea ware.

Thank you for your suggestion, Salsero. Just want to let you know that I did PM MarshalN, who kindly replied:

So it's still a mystery. I agree that the "teeth" on the spout do make it look Japanese.

Ameyu/Ohi Chawan with Matcha:

Nice one, Joel. I remember seeing that chawan when it came up... good snarfle.
The warmth of this glaze is really something, isn't it. Reminds me of a very intense aka-raku. As you say, it looks fantastic against the matcha.

I've read that Ameyu/Ohi is actually very similar to Raku in terms of firing... also low-fired. Possibly even the same thing- just a different glaze?
This reminds me, I have to sign up for that pottery/ceramics class! I think I can fit it into my schedule...

chataku by request. I believe the inlay is abalone in lacquer. The saucer is a highly lacquered wood. I believe a click on the image will give you a larger size. Click for slightly larger.
