Well, do not hold your breath, although I am trying to figure out if you are serious or being sarcastic. These sets are pretty rare and hard to come by. Choun is very famous in Japan. Fortunately his son has followed in his father's footsteps ... and there is a grandaughter too. I have also purchased pieces from both.

This may have been my best ebay purchase ... or maybe the other set I am going to post is.

With regards to Cthulhu, askeep and dreaming, I was in fact trying to be ironic. Seems that I miserably failed and now the the great Elders will probably ask me to Tea in sunken Kadath ...

I must admit, that Choun, Hagi or whatever is not entirely to my taste.
I will post a picture of my personal favourite pot soon, a green jade
(serpentine) artist teapot from Taiwan in the bragging thread.

There is a style of teaware for most everyone, one that will have them proclaim, "awesome!" As for Choun kiln and the 3 generations of Noutomi family Hagi artisans, I will make no excuses ... they are not for everyone, but based upon the fair market price, I am guessing there is not a shortage of demand.

TBH, I did not care for Hagi at all when I first saw them. I saw one I liked, purchased it and ... and the rest is history. So I can understand why someone would not absolutely love Hagi (though apparently many people do).

TeaChat is pretty much about mutual acceptance of our differences in tastes in teas and wares ... it is also pretty much about open minds and learning.

As for me, I am glad I kept an open mind and learned to appreciate and love Hagi. You might say it was life altering.

For the record, Choun is the first of 3 current generations of Noutomi family artisans. The next gen is Susumu, and then a female 3rd gen named Naoko I believe. The kiln is named Choun for its founder, and it is located in Hagi ... the city that is home to the Hagi style of pottery in Japan (roots in Korea).

Absolutely, Hagi seems to enhance the entire sensual experience of tea.

But if does not look "cool" or "awesome" ... the rest will never happen. After I determine it has the looks, then I envision other elements such as how it may feel ... shape, glaze, size. Then how it feel drinking from it.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure what to think about hagi the first time I saw it--and for the most part, much of it still doesn't appeal, aesthetically speaking. But there are a few pieces that are really gorgeous--thanks to Teachat, I absolutely fell in love with the 'ROCK' cups, and still admire mine each time I use it.

It's also very fun to watch the development of the fine webbing of crackles on the inside--I mostly drink yancha or bai hao in it, which have resulted in some gorgeous golden crackling. I really need to take a picture to share how its changed over the year or so I've had it!

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I realized one of my teaware dreams and acquired a yunomi by Kaneta Masanao:



It's hefty--almost as large as a chawan. For size comparison, I've photographed it next to a chawan by his father, Kaneta Sanzaemon VII.

The size is a bit awkward for casual drinking, but I don't care...I'm totally in love...
