A very awesome Li Shan Oolong from a Dutch company, here: http://www.hotsoup.nl/nl/thee/oolong-th ... olong.html

It's incredible. It's my first Li Shan, and I'll be drinking a lot of this stuff from now on. What an experience!

I too was quite stunned by my first Alishan. Amazing stuff.

Today, though, I'm drinking some Bai Yun yunnan oolong, an oriental-beauty style oolong from Norbu. Quite delicious, in a fruity/plummy way, very different from a floral/spicy/sweet Alishan.

Hi Debunix. Are you aware that Li shan and Alishan are 2 different mountains? Just checking because you are agreeing with the former post about Lishan but you mention Alishan. Generally, Li Shan and Shan Ling Xi teas are more highly regarded than Alishan. Usually more altitude, better teas.

I was never able to satisfactorily nail down the difference, and between the various spellings of both names, lack of useful information when I tried to use google maps to pin them down, remain confused about their differences.

I have mostly drunk Alishan oolongs, then, although they have been from high on that mountain, but haven't found the one (or two? can't recall) Da Yu Lings that I've found to be markedly different.

Li Shan is in Taichung County which is further north than Alishan which is in Chiayi County. Da Yu Ling 105k is supposed to be the highest tea farm in the world at 2700m.

Typically the Alishan teas are less costly but I'm sure there are exceptions. I've found the better Li Shan and Shan Ling Xi teas are more fruity with wonderful aromas. Usually cost more.

I've read the highest farm is 2700m but there are others at lower elevations. 2700m is very high, don't you think?

The hightest elevation plot used to own by Chairman Chiang and look after by his guards is at 3000 plus. A high cedar creed Plantation is 2400-2900m. So DYL could be higher?

Cedar Creek or Cedar Lake? Cedar Lake is not that high and on Alishan. Never heard of any farms at 3000m but could be. I can't find any reference to farms that high.

That's a daaaaaaaaaark brew. How does it taste? Is something like this periodically re-roasted as it ages, or does it just mellow out naturally?

It's on Day 4 and still going strong. It may have been re-roasted but not recently, as the roast on the tea was pretty mellow. That picture was the first or second steep which was done at less than 5 seconds. But then again it is 6 grams in my 50ml yixing.
