Henley, here's looking at you kid!
Others around here can attest to the fact that I'm not as talented as the rest of you when it comes to describing what I've smelled, tasted, etc. My basic review is whether or not I like it. Sorry but the in-depth tasting notes will have to be handled by somone other than me. Plus, I'm still trying to get my samples finished so I can ship the box off by the end of this week.
However, I think I'm the only one so far who's cared for the Snow Pear Oolong. Hubby & I had it one evening & enjoyed the smooth flavor. Don't know that I'll rush out & buy some but we liked it.
Of 4 or 5 teas from the box I've tried, the Wuyi Shui Xian from NCTG is my favorite so far. It's a dark oolong w/a warm & rich flavor.

Don't be afraid to try a little. Most of us started out feeling the same way, but thinking about it and maybe trying to express your impression can really add to the enjoyment.
Also, most of us are just bluffing anyway! One person says if tastes like grapefruit and another says it tastes like chocolate.

The Oolong Box Is On It's Way To Oregon!!!
Wow! A huge thanx to Tenuki & Victoria for the "seeds" they planted. The box was amazing. And a big thanx to Russian Soul, too. She made labels for all the different teas & shared them w/me. This was such a time saver! Long story but I am up to my eyeballs in Avery return address labels so I printed out sheets for everybody & included them in the box. I didn't have as many oolongs to contribute as others so it was the least I could do.
RussianSoul wrote: There are now 40 different teas in the Box. You may want to be prepared to take samples because there's no way a person can try all he or she wants to try in a reasonable amount of time. The solution can be to get tea sample baggies. I know Upton and TeaSource sell them, perhaps there are other vendors as well.
I
highly recommend this! The bags came in handy. Thanx again for the heads-up, RS.
Someone asked me if I kept any teas to sample. I'll let the pic speak for itself...
What's scary, I didn't take a sample of everything because some teas I already own or had already tried. Enjoy!

It looks worse than it is.

Each bag only has 2 tsp of tea in it. But after counting, I could have a new oolong every day for a month. Gonna have to get a tea journal to take notes & remember which ones I liked best.

Spreadsheet is easy. If you have the foo foo handwriting for it, journal is pretty.

I got the oolong box a couple days ago, but I've only had a couple (I got some other new teas as well).
Brewing in my own yixing 3oz gaiwan, preheated, with a (new) preheated medium sized porcelain cup and boiling water (actually 208 from the Zoji).
The Taiwan Wuyi baozhong is really something. It has the texture of a Wuyi with the flavor profile of a good baozhong. There's just a hit of carmel in the background, mostly in the finish. Up front it has nice aroma and a light sweet taste.
I'm also on my 3rd infusion of Ali Shan from TeaHome. It's a bit light on aroma, mostly buttery, with good viscosity. I've had better gaoshan, but it's not bad.

Taiwan Wuyi Baozhong? I have not heard of this one. I am curious about it. Is this a roasted Baozhong?

Nope, it's a regular baozhong from Taiwan, but made with leaf from a Wuyi strain of plant (probably Shui Xian). It's good stuff

Oh, cool! Thanks, ABx.
I wonder if there will be any til the box makes it here?

The caramel notes you describe sounds ... intriguing!
Is it from Wenshan? I will try to read through the topic for more info on it. Any vendor info?

Ahhh, so it does have a strong roast. I have not figured out if roasted Baozhong is more to my liking than light or non roasted offerings. I need to try more.
Thanx again, ABx.

How many people are in line right now? Sounds interesting, I'm a pu nut but want to learn about Oolong, so if someone could give me a number of how many are on the waiting list that would be great! Thanks!!!!

It's actually not particularly strong, except perhaps compared to normal baozhong. At least what's in the box is very green and pretty much looks like any baozhong as far as the color.
