OK, going from the sublime to the ridiculous...

I have two yixing teapots. The one below is the one I use the most - exclusively for oolong. Holds about 6 fl. oz., or 3/4 of a cup.

It's cute as a button... and also another consignment store find. (My town is a great place to find second-hand Asian tea things.)

I have no idea how well this little fella rates as a yixing (since I'm truly not sure what to look for, beyond the completely obvious), but it's certainly a pleasure to use.

However, I've noticed that the ones that people display on this thread tend to have a much rounder, apple-like shape, and a spout that is not only shorter, but usually curved as well. Presumably there are functional reasons for this?

Yeah... in the Year of the Pig, he was "zodiacally appropriate."

Now, he is merely a silent indictment of my tea habits

Nope... just a humble technical writer with a sense of the absurd.

Seriously now, what's wrong with this cheap little yixing? Please feel free to critique it as bluntly as you like. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm never averse to buying imperfect wares if, by doing so, I can learn what to look for the next time around.

(Hint: pig motif not mandatory feature of Yixing wares?)

Nothing that I can see. My standards are not the highest, I doubt if it is a valuable collector's item, but it looks like a beautiful, functional pot. It is about 50% too big for my ideal size, but it sounds like it meets your needs nicely. Cherish it. That's what they are made for.

Nothing wrong if you get good tea of it.
Perhaps a little too big to my taste.

Maybe this teapot isn't quite as silly as I thought.

Here's Tetley the miniature pig. He's young, but discerning:

Sadly, there are no photos of Tetley enjoying his tea out of a Yixing teapot with a human on top...

Oh! He is most precious!

I WANT HIM!!!

I really hope that's a dark oolong and not some bagged tea!!
I might call the SPCA to look into it.
Then he can be placed in a proper home.
