How big is it? For some reason it looks nodate to me.
Thanks for sharing!
its 4.5"Wide by 3.25" tall, It's a normal sized chawan. I pretty much said this same thing above about someone elses chawn!

I used "macro" mode on my DSLR, which might be why it looks smaller.
debunix - I have no idea what kind of glaze this is... but since its brown black, I can assume its not a lead glaze. Anyone know what it is?

Yeah - funny how some shots make chawan look smaller somehow. Those wiley cameras!
I don't know what the glaze is, but I'd sure love to see a photo of matcha in it, showing off that lovely glaze in your awesome new chawan!

Hey Shawn,
I want to urge you to persist!
Contact the artist again. Perhaps re-entry (post holiday) has been stressful, or who knows. I find that persisting with an artist can be helpful. Kind and respectful persistence of course.
And… I've been dying to see that bowl!

I was admiring the chawan when you first posted it--lots of wabi-sabi, and nice warm colors to contrast to the matcha.

Wow - That is SOOO cool!
The thought of making one's own chawan.
I think that would be really fun.
Gosh - wouldn't it be great if we could all get together for a week with Cory in Hawaii and just have a chawan workshop (with snorkeling breaks of course!). And where each of us would end up with a self made chawan!
Looks tebineri/hand built, ay?
Nice!
Are you able to put aside any criticisms you have and just feel the FORCE that inhabits it?
cheers!

Yes it is Tebineri, all pinch work. Honestly this piece scared me so much along the way. I thought the walls were so thin they were going to be easily damaged during the hustle and bustle of the studio. Thankfully they were not, and I have the one piece I made with the fewest weight issues. It is still not a dream piece over all, but if I can say without trying to sound like I am bragging, I think this Chawan is far more usable for its intended purpose than some *professional* artists. (Though if you are an active T.A. on this forum yours are far superior, I am mostly referring to some esty artists that think Chawan = eye catching bowl.)

I think that's very cool that you find it very usable - a very good sign of the success of your work. If it feels good in your hands, if it exudes the force (heh heh), and isn't just some gaudy 'eye catching bowl'. And I think it looks pretty nice and certainly exudes "chawan". I agree with your comment about many of the so called chawan on etsy. Lots of chaff to sort thru there.

Love, love, love your biidoro and drippy, trails-of-ash-turned-glass chawan!
