Over the weekend I had the following teas (all from Norbu):

Shui Xian 2011 Spring - This has an amazing Dutch coco note...sounds crazy but it is great. A really rich tea.

Da Wu Ye 2011 Spring - Orchid 'green' florals...really refreshing.

Ba Xian 8 Immortals Dan Cong 2011 Winter pre sale sample - Similar to Da Wu Ye but more honeysuckle than orchid-vegetable notes. This is just pure honeysuckle...incredible..

Charcoal Roasted Lao Con Shan Cha - I can't get enough of this tea...love the soft sweet barley mixed in with soft charcoal roast notes.

Lao Cong Shan Cha Wild Tea 2011 Spring - Really interesting to compare with charcoal roasted version above..a great example of how roasting medium can really change flavor. This did not have any charcoal notes..but instead has this great sweet Moschatta Squash type notes underneath loads of barley notes. Sounds weird but tastes great. Roast notes were there but very unobtrusive....and nothing like the charcoal roasted version.

Mei Zan 2011 FALL - Another charcoal roasted tea...like a slightly less complex version of the charcoal roasted Lao Cong Shan Cha.

Xiao Hong Pao 2011 Spring - Brewed two difference strengths...stronger brew tasted more like a Da hong Pao...sweet barley, malt and tannins...whereas lighter brew was softer and more honey like. Really versatile tea and a great way to end the weekend.

2011 Winter DaYuLing from Floating Leaves.
6g in 100ml gaiwan. No rinse,45,45,60,90....
Only a touch of bitterness here and there, mostly nice and clean.
I might like their Alishan that I tried yesterday a little better. I thought the Alishan was more complex and a bit fuller.

from my second set of samples from zen8tea: Roasted JinXuan Oolong

the last lot was her charcoal-baked oolongs ..

arrives in similar vacuum packs to TfT

but sans oxygen-absorbers .. quite generous amounts of highly expansive balls

2009 Bai Ji Guan from the Tea Gallery. It has more roasting than I was expecting, but it is delicious: creamy but light and tender and nut-sweet with hints of walnut and cocoa in the finish.

Shared this with my son and a friend.
