Re: Today's MatchaWan :D (new name, but tea's the same)
I have one of his chawan as well, one with an oil spot glaze. I think his style is very youthful, always using dynamic forms and a large variation of different glazes. I feel he's a young artist, but a rising one.

Thank you Senchamatcha for the info! I'm happy I could find this great forum where we can share our passion for tea and teawareSenchamatcha wrote:Sasameyuki, I have one if it's sisters,Sasameyuki wrote:Hi,

SasameyukiIt's a nice and very pretty chawan.
I believe the potters name is Kato Eichi. there are several websites that sell his wares such as http://www.japanese-pots.com/KatoE1.htm and he seems to make a lot of pottery in the $20-60 range as well as a few pieces going for as high as $200-300. Atleast that I have seen thus far available over the net.

I'm glad to be here at TeaChat

I enjoy many different kind of teas. As for matcha, one of the things I like so much is that it gives me a "calm energy"

Ah yes, i know exactly what you mean. Although lately i haven't found the moment (that sometimes comes to me) to brew me some matcha. But i also like the preparation to it, in contrast to putting the coffee machine on and waiting for it to finish;)Sasameyuki wrote:Hi Seeker and Fuut,Seeker wrote:Hi, Sasameyuki!

Wow what a colorful chawan. It seems rather big, is it? That looks like a nice bowl to use. Thank you for sharing!CWarren wrote:Today's MatchaWan:

You guys have some amazing chawan. I've only got the one that I started out with, which I believe is Mino Yaki.
I'm going to Japan in May...hoping to find a few pieces to add to my collection. If not, I may treat myself to something online when I get back!
I'd quite like a nice hira chawan, I think.

Thank you for sharing your fantastic chawan CW.
PH - while I am a HUGE fan of chawan, I am not well versed in nomenclature for styles, shapes, glazes, etc. Can you tell us what 'hira' means? Also - hopefully you'll pick up an amazing chawan in japan (or online) and share with us!
Cheers everyone.
ps - recent visit to my nutritional guru has me on a break from tea - so no matcha for awhile.

Hira means flat -- a hira chawan is the flatter, shallow style, generally used during the summer, as opposed to the more widely seen style with high sides.
I think there are a few examples of hira chawan in this thread.

Here is mine -- Mino Yaki chawan 'Shinsetsu' (新雪 - new snow)

Thank you for info on 'Hira'!
And - Shinsetsu is beautiful! Wow. I love the crazing inside near the chadamari. Makes me want matchaaaaaaa!

Re: Today's MatchaWan :D (new name, but tea's the same)
Its been a while, but my tea specific room is coming together and I was in the right mood this evening.
A unusual bowl by Seigan Yamane. Apologies, without flash they were very dark, and here with flash they're a little over-lighted.
