More Seigan madness:)

I bought 2, of what i think/feel are like experiments on combining glazes, to be honest i really like this one (plus the second one, coming later). This is one is a little bit smaller than the standard ±10cm inside. Please see below.

And here's the second one, both bearing somewhat resemblances to each other, this one is more the usual size of his work in this kind of form. Also this one seems to have undergone a different reaction, the somewhat greying appearance at the borders between colors has a somewhat scale like texture that you don't really feel but it looks like that, it stipples away towards the amber like color and the teal/light green in the middle, and on the outside it has a reddish leather like color in lowest points of the drips.

Bad explanation most likely but its a quiet intriguing chawan which wasn't very expensive.

The one-off experiments can be quite lovely, for sure. I especially like the combination of colors in that first one.

Hagi yaki refers to the clay used and where it comes from / is made (ie Hagi-shi), does it not?

The same as bizen-yaki comes out of bizen-shi and Tokoname-yaki from Tokoname-shi etc.

Otherwise they'd be named after the glazing technique?

EDIT: Of course, there are certain styles generally associated with a given type of yaki but surely it's not a defining feature or there'd be 'Hagi-yaki' coming from all over the world...?

I thought that the pottery types were named after the places they were invented and most often used, and we're associating them with a particular glaze. Sure, hagi must come from Hagi the same way champagne must come from champagne, but if someone in champagne makes a pinot noir that doesn't make it a champagne.
