Hmm. Wise words -- this is a good point. But if it's produced by a well known hagi yaki potter at a well know hagi-yaki kiln...?bonescwa wrote:Sure, hagi must come from Hagi the same way champagne must come from champagne, but if someone in champagne makes a pinot noir that doesn't make it a champagne.

I'm not really sure how this discussion is appropriate however perhaps i should've posted it somewhere else. However when a potter is truly fluent in multiple styles he's usually known as such, SY is afaik. a hagi potter, therefor i posted it here.
And really, i think its about what certain potters offer up for sale, like all of them have to do countless firings without success and if someone sees more in a bigger supply of his load then i don't see what the problem is. Perhaps in a few years you'll see a new signature piece which reminds you of these 2 bowls. I hope i will. Anyway, continue -

The reason I asked the question is that the glazing on this item is extremely glass-like. Maybe it's just the photo, but it looks like this was fired higher than most Hagi ware even though the clay is local. I could be mistaken.
Hagi was a direct result of the Korean style brought with the Koreans that were indentured to the Japanese several hundred years back.

if it comes from hagi, it's basically hagi Yaki. The glaze has no real bearing on this, the artists come up with new glazes from time to time, Yamane Seigan's famous blue glaze is a relatively new style and it is considered a defining Hagi glaze. If it was made in hagi, by a known Hagi potter, and fired in a hagi kiln, their is absolutely no question that it's hagi.

Here's my new Yamane Seigan yunomi. It's large, holding about 12oz and is exactly what I've been looking for since being served tea in such a large cup in Japan.
Beautiful fur type glazing around the rim and deep Seigan blue on the inside -- an absolute pleasure to use:

Oh, I really like the bottom there, pig hog. This makes me sad that I can't afford more teaware at the moment.

We always find a way to make more room though somehow, don't we!Pig Hog wrote:Neither could I...

Not only that, but I've run out of room in my allocated tea cupboard and I'm spilling over onto work surfaces, pissing off the rest of the family..

Links aren't working for me in FF or Safari to see that new Seigan Yunomi.

You have to delete the image tag ([/img) at the end to make it work!debunix wrote:Links aren't working for me in FF or Safari to see that new Seigan Yunomi.
Pig Hog, I certainly can relate to that at the moment. It rather stresses me out too, personally.

Posted with tapatalk...not sure if I can change anything. Will look when I'm at home.
EDIT: just the end tags? Won't that just make them random links? Will they even work?
