Woozl's new acquisition is extraordinary. The color is intense yet inviting and a little bit of the wonder of viewing another galazy through the Hubble telescope! Does anyone else see faces in the glazing? :o

Now that you mention it I do, especially in the last picture. Do you also see the silhouette of a cat sitting there in the last pic? Towards the foreground a little left of center with big ears. Looks Asian. :)

Sure do - and the butterfly to the top left that might be the object of the cat's attention?

I saw the cat!
Didn't gaze long enough for faces though, but I imagine they'd be there.
Cool.
Great chawan!
I'll post my latest strommen soon - I've had it for awhile,
but with the recent family and then my own medical emergencies, haven't been able to get to it.
Cheers!

Okay, I went back and gazed.
Definitely faces.
I saw a panda face, a spooky sort of jack skelington face, and perhaps some other ones as well.
I haven't experienced psychedelics for a couple of decades, but I imagine that gazing into this chawan in such a state would be very interesting...
Gaze into this chawan and behold as your vision pierces the veil...

2nd - a Matt Brown yunomi from Teance:

No animosity though, I'm thrilled it was woozl, "one of us", who got it.
:)
Oh the faces you'll see.
It is rather nebulous :)

I purchased these from Lin's Ceramics in Taiwan. They are all made from Purion (more info on the Lin's website). The teapot size is 180 ml. Note the "08" stamp on the bottom of the teacup. I presume that is the year of production. I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Tokyo B, very nice looking gear. The tea caddy looks glazed. On the inside, too? Is it also Purion clay? They make both glazed and unglazed Purion?

I think you will notice a real difference when you fill that caddy with Oolong. The aroma should enhance quickly. Let us know your experience.

Yes, I also think that Purion works better with Taiwanese Oolong, which is to be expected, since they both come from the same place! In addition to a better aroma, I also noticed a sweetness in my Oolong that wasn't as pronounced when I brewed with other vessels...
I wish I knew more about the composition of Purion though; does anyone know if they have the same kind of properties as Yixing when it comes to absorbative properties?

I asked them for an analysis of the clay. They glossed right over this asking me if I was ready to place my order. :) I asked again. She also asked again when I was going to place my order. :D

BTW, not all yixing have absorptive properties. It is not the absorption that gives the enhanced flavor and aroma, but, the iron properties of the clay, especially zhuni and zisha (purple clay).

Haha, I wouldn't expect too many answers from them. They're very sales-driven so they probably couldn't answer your specific questions. I'm happy with my Purion myself, I've been using it for over a year. I was touring around Yingge, trying to find the right yixing pot, when I saw Lin's Ceramic Studio. I thought to myself, "This will probably be more unique and distinct from Yixing, and it's probably something that'll be harder to find elsewhere." I think I made the right choice, because things that grow together (or from the same area), go together. At least I think Purion is Taiwanese clay...whatever, I'm happy, and that's what matters.

Tead Off - Thanks. The tea caddy is glazed on the outside only. I think there is also a completely unglazed tea caddy available as well. All of the standard Purion pots are completely unglazed. However there are some unique one of a kind Purion pots made by a few masters. Those pots had a mix of different glazes and were very interesting. Unfortunately they're quite expensive - around $500 USD.

I will report on the Purion when I get a chance to experiment with it.
