Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Right now I'm drinking some Alishan high mountain Oolong, harvested in September 2009. Wonderful stuff with a light hint of orchids. Expensive, but well worth it.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I'm drinking a loose ti kuan yin I bought in a paper bag for $5 at TenRen on my walk to work, brewed from the hot spigot on the office water cooler in a $3 Chinatown teapot.
Not bad!

Red Blossom's Tung Ting charcoal roasted. I bought it Saturday on recommendation. I had bought their aged Tung Ting a few weeks back and found the charcoal flavor to be too much - it tasted burned to me no matter how I brewed it. The young fellow helping me Saturday recommended this one. It has less of the charcoal flavor and more variety of nice flavors - sorry I do not have the vocabulary to describe them. And a very nice aftertaste. I like it.

Some Anxi TGY from Camellia Sinensis.

Victoria, I hate to change the topic off oolongs but how are Camellia Sinensis's other teas? Do they speciallize more in oolongs?Victoria wrote:Some Anxi TGY from Camellia Sinensis.

Change of pace today with a greener anxi benshan oolong.

My old standby red labeled tin of Ti Kuan Yin, a good brewing with sweet, spicy, earthy all to the fore.

About 50/50 mix of Tea Gallery Gonfu Cha and their traditional roasted TKY. Yummy. I need to get more of that traditional roast.
Sometimes I'll mix two teas if I have some of one leftover, but not enough for a full pot. Does anybody else do this?

Drinking 2009 "high fire" Shui Xian and pondering what it all means.
(Old photo, I thought it was the same tea but I believe that is a shui xian of a different stripe).
Ponder with me here.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Thanks for the pondering link Brandon I hadn't thought about that before
It was a good read.
Im cheating a bit because I forgot to post this yesterday but Im so excited about it I had to post. I tried a medium roast Shui Jin Gui for the first time yesterday and I loved it so much... its awsome! It was a small sample Jingteashop had thrown in with my order that I almost forgot about
The best wuyi I have had before this was there xiao hong pao which I understand as just a higher quality da hong pao than the seasonal with smaller leaves. The biggest difference was how long that wuyi flavor lingered in my mouth and how many steeps the tea was good for was much more.
I can't wait to try some other wuyi's

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
IIRC, xiao hong pao originally was used to distinguish tea made from second (vs. first) generation da hong pao clones. However, at this point, I think the distinction is essentially meaningless.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Today drinking a new oolong that I got because of some posts here. It's Winter premium Bao Zhong from Houde, and I ordered it just out of curiousity when really I just wanted to try some Rou Gui that I'd been reading about in this and other topics. So Houde had the Rou Gui, and to fill out the order (dangerous practice!), I bought this tea too. It is lovely, floral, sweet, but quite different than the Ali Shan oolongs. I don't quite know how to describe the difference.
Before I use up the 2009 spring Ali Shan, I will have to do a head-to-head tasting with this tea, to better define the differences.

I'm having some Hou De too. I just opened a vacuum pack from Winter 2007. I have to say it was better than the 2006. I have four packs left from 2007. I hope to get though these fairly quickly, I'll feel more comfortable when I get to the 2008s.
This is Winter Awarded Song Po from November 2007, a 25% roast. It is creamy and smooth. You can tell it has lost a bit of its luster, but still
over all it's pretty decent.
