"My" natsume is unseasonal anyhow

I really love seasonal themes in Japanese tea wares, but must admit that late spring for me is the least interesting time, motif-wise. It's the summertime and especially autumnal designs (like the one above - September moon with pampas grass) that are the most beautiful, I think.

Right now I have been severely outbid on the Seigan chawan and have lowered my sites to this one from Rishi. I have always liked it.

And the problem is that I could actually buy it.
Could someone please buy it before I decide to order.
Those are beautiful.

The oshidori (mandarin ducks) are considered a symbol of marital fidelity / eternal love in Japan, because they mate for life. It's a very romantic motif. Appropriate as a wedding gift - although of course it can be used generally, too.

I always try to imagine non-standard/Western uses of Japanese motifs. In this particular case, it'd be a nice gift for a birdwatcher or ecological activist

But I have a weakness for cherry blossoms. Which I find embarrassing since they are so common and I would like to think of myself as having unique tastes. :D My excuse is that we had a small cherry orchard growing up and I as a small boy I spent many many happy hours playing in those trees.

I'll admit to feeling a bit unenthusiastic about cherry blossoms in general (as an artistic motif - I never tire of the real thing!). However, I did buy a sakura chawan a few months ago.

The photo in the listing wasn't great, so I'll have to pull it out and take some photos of my own so that you can enjoy it.

There really are some lovely sakura-themed pieces out there - even the sakura-jaded individual must admit it

Here's a seiji (celadon) yunomi from Hiromitsu that I wouldn't mind owning. It's by Shimizu Uichi, who is a Living National Treasure:

Maybe when I win the lottery.

In the meantime, it can be yours for a cool US $1,380.00. See here for more luscious pics:

WARNING: Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear.

Translation: I think the photo of the chawan may actually be larger than the chawan itself. Wowza!

I might spend about 150$ on this auction, but I don't think it will be enough.
I quite always bid on ebay at the last ten seconds, so I will see tomorrow morning.
