Hey Joel, is that the chawan you bought recently, or is it one you're considering? Very nice - is it Ohi?

No, that one is pricier, $128, so I am considering it but I probably shouldn't. Or should Ichamekke wrote: Hey Joel, is that the chawan you bought recently, or is it one you're considering? Very nice - is it Ohi?

This is the one I bought recently, that I thought would make a nice everyday Chawan:

Semi-"Idogata" shaped Arita-ware.

I didn't know the term Ame-yu, so I looked it up and ... it turns out to be another name for Ohi. (Incidentally, kofudo_jp often lists Ame-yu/Ohi chawan-s. She often calls them "candy glaze".)joelbct wrote:No, that one is pricier, $128, so I am considering it but I probably shouldn't. Nice "everyday chawan", that. A very pleasing glaze and shape!

Yeah Brent that is almost as awesome as the last one -- unfortunately, someone bid far more than $150 for it, besting both Oliver and myself. I wish you luck with this one, though.
Another idea is to send a photo to Toru and see if he has seen them around in his travels. Make sure to mention Alex in all of your correspondence so that he can go to Japan and make nice with all the potters of Tokoname. We need an inside man.

Naw Thirsty, not Daiso, they are from a chicago potter who sells on ebay as well as galleries - Jay Strommen. I pretty much want anything he makes and unfortunately the ebay stuff is usually reasonably priced. lol. I am seriously considering bidding on those four chawans even though I have four of his chawans already being shipped. He just keeps making more stuff I want!
His ebay store is called 'Famous Earth'. He sometimes has stuff for sale there from other american potters too. He's kinda second/third generation 'Mingeisota' and like those guys believes in selling stuff at reasonable prices as a driver to make more and explore. He studied in japan briefly himself and does his own thing, but knows all those guys apparently.
The silver kettle is from japan yahoo and closes in a day, so hurry..
