those fickle pottery gods! BTW I've been checking your etsy site obsessively! I grow to love my owl more and more everyday... I dont drink alcohol so he hangs with the teaware and dons my matcha sifter as a hat.

I am so fortunate to have two new yunomi. :)
If and when the sun shines I will try to convey a hint...

Thank you

“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I ca’n’t take more.”
“You mean you ca’n’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”

another wild chawan

by bonjiri » Jun 23rd, '09, 22:47

last year i made several handmade chawan. i think i might start exploring this same motif. something about the energy. so much different, more power than throwing on the wheel.

just posted some new and interesting pieces at the etsy shop. red chawan and a celadon one. also a cool natsu, summer tenmoku piece.

Ok, so this is really silly. I don't drink but I still bought a owl guinomi from Cory Lum. Since I'm not drinking out of him he needed something else to do. He now models my matcha sifter as a hat.

I think he looks quite stylish.

I don't know about Japanese Greens but it looks suitable for drinking several other teas from.

I use my special tea offer #1 Sea Cucumber Guinomi for drinking Oolong (Tie Guan Yin and Dan Cong) and it's perfect!

I drink tea from a guinomi probably half the time. I say go for it. You will need a pitcher of some kind to pour the tea into so it does not overbrew.

Nice 'matcha screen,' many of us use these infuser baskets for screening matcha.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

amazing quote of the day by Tsujimura Shiro, amazing artist

by bonjiri » Jun 24th, '09, 19:07

"I sometimes wander about the hills and fields to collect dirt that i happen to like. I break it up with a mallet, shake it up, and mix with with water to make clay. To use clay that is factory produced in great quantities doesn't involve any of this kind of creativity, but it guarantees perfect, easy-to-use clay. Though when you look inside it, you might discover it lacks personality." -- shiro tsujimura

one of my influences regarding making ochawan. "They are not only to gaze upon, but must be held and used to appreciate the inherent beauty and art; this cannot be done either with paintings or sculpture. To make a good chawan, first one has to understand the value of old masterpieces. I have come to that understanding but still can't seem to make even one worthy chawan!" -- kato tohkuro
