Good stuff, keep it coming.
Thanks, ya I've been pretty much obsessed, as of late, with shino. I always have, but more so lately...

Thanks for looking and for taking the time to comment.

A few Shino Guinomi from the last firing...they average approx. 3 ounces/75 ml.

Thanks,
Michael

Totally carbon, Carbon Trap Yunomi...I've had several people lately looking for larger tea cups, this one is 10 ounces. This piece was a bit of a surprise as it was glazed and loaded wet and fired. Usually it takes a few days for the soluble materials to migrate to the surface that aid in producing the carbon trapping effect.

Additional images of this piece can be found at:

Thanks for your time,

hi michael...gotta love it when you get good carbon trapping like that. i have had one piece carbon trap...i think it was one of malcolm davis' regular shinos. i wasn't looking to trap, but it came out very nicely. speaking of shino, i really like the crackle water jar you have on etsy. is that a shino formulated specifically to crackle? i tested one last firing, but it was a regular shino over a val chushing slip for greenware, applied to bisque. judith duff, a potter down in nc, does a crackle shino...check her work out at www.judithduff.com if you are unfamiliar with her. i like a good strong crackle like you obtained. ~lucien

A new chawan from a recent firing with unique shino glaze, has a somewhat unctuous finish.

Thanks for looking,

I really wish I could get a better picture of the yunomi I recently acquired from Michael, but I can't take one that does it any justice at all. Here's one from the Etsy link since Michael takes much better pictures than I do.

Image

I absolutely love this yunomi. It fits perfectly in my hands and the glaze is more stunning in person than it is in the picture.

michael

thanks man for your kind words

it would be cool to collaborate on a show together !

making stuff for another firing in soda. i'm trying a interesting new form. inspired by stone out croppings

thinking too to do a water reduction in combination w/wood reduction.
will quickly cool the kiln from around 2300 down to around 1500 fahrenheit. with reduction on the way down. the japanese call it 'tanka' in which they stuff the kiln w/green wood at the end of the firing. interesting enough, the chinese during the tang dynasty also discovered that water created amazing effects in the kiln.

cheers

cory

CK,
Thanks for the testimonial and all your other supportive comments, I'm very pleased that you are enjoying your yunomi.

Cory,
Yes, maybe a show...? I think the problem for both of us would simply be to find the time.

I've done quite a few water reduction firings with great results, most notably, one with Philip Cornelius several years ago in California. We fired a 40 c.f. gas kiln, tumble stacked, to cone 10 at which point we delivered about 150 pounds of mesquite charcoal into the kiln through large peep holes with angle iron. The kiln jumps to cone 12-13 in a matter of minutes. We then poured 2-3 gallons of water directly through the flue. Fired for another 30 minutes and shut down. I will try to post a few pix soon.

I thought I would post images of a Two-sided Chun Red Yunomi. Two faces of the same piece. I've listed several new yunomi in my shop at:

Thanks for looking,
Michael

Pretty funny, Woozl. I was just sitting here wondering if potters sing "fire" songs as they crank up the heat ... as I read here and checked out Michael's new Shino.

L. Cohen.
"And who by fire, who by water,
Who in the sunshine, who in the night time,
Who by high ordeal, who by common trial,
Who in your merry merry month of May,
Who by very slow decay,
And who shall I say is calling"?

It's all about the fire...very clever fire references BTW.

A new Crawly Shino Chawan. Bright white and "warm" to the touch.
