It was a very dear friend. It brewed such incredible Gaoshan Wulong! I saw it happen in slow motion too. It literally did bounce twice and then just explode.

Wow, impressive. I'd rather see complete obliteration though, than to have anything I feel like I should save for "display." An only "little bit broken" tea-thing always makes me feel worse that one that went out spectacularly.

I just broke one of my Zuni teapots. It bounced twice, then just shattered. I don't know if I have the heart to photograph it though. It's a great way to start the day.

...it can hold water, should be good up to 250° and is safe, though I don't see myself testing tea out in it. Might look around some more for the one bigger chip missing and go back over it, fill in some of the small holes near the rim. It's nice to be able to hold it at least.

It is and it did... this was my fault and only happened recently. Was wiping it out and I suppose it decided to see if it could fly. Turns out it can't, hit two counters then the floor.

Technically it can probably be called a superglue. My friend had used it to repair tanks, the fish kind, oddly enough and recommended it(since it's waterproof/withstands heat/edibles safe). It's called Omni-Stick.

Just required a bit of a clean once it cured and it looks at least good enough that my roommate was confused as to why I was showing her it until I told her what happened(then, she's not always the sharpest tool in the shed, so that might be taken with a grain of salt ). Still looking around my work for something for the two barely noticeable holes near the rim, though in no hurry.

On Mago blog, there is a link to a japanese craftsman who repairs teaware using different techniques. Here's the address and the link to examples of repair on chinese teaware.

As I have a broken teapot which I like a lot, I sent it to him. As he only speaks japanese, I asked Mago to help me with the transaction and he kindly did. He came up with an estimate based on pictures I sent. To give you an idea, the repair of the broken spout of my teapot costs 4500 yens. I also had a chip on the lid, which costs 3000 yens. I chose lustreless gold for both, but I don't know if it is a finish layer or the whole repair is done with it.

There seems to have a 3 months waiting list, and I really don't know if he is concerned by the japanese crisis right now.

I'll be sure to post before-and-after pictures when I receive it. So far, I really don't know when it will be.

Finally, I've heard quite recently about a man who studied in Japan and who makes such repairs using gold. I could look into it if some are interested.

That looks fantastic! I'm having a lid repaired as well. It has been a few months, but I learned long ago not to rush an artist. I figure it'll arrive when it does and it'll all be good. I'm very psyched though. The lid that broke is an old friend and really worthy of being repaired. Enjoy your revitalized pot!

Lucky for me the worst I've experienced have been broken or chipped eggshell gaiwans. Worst case, I just replace them with TG's stock.

I have a feeling this will change, however, as I begin to collect more varied (and expensive) teaware.
