Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Just finished a mixed brewing of japanese green teas: discovered a teeny bit left in one of the TC asamushi sencha OTTI bags (don't know which one), added to the last bit of Hon Yama Zairai sencha from Norbu, and filled out enough for my morning tea with a bit of a mellow gyokuro I was given as a gift, that came from my chinatown tea shop--Wing Hop Fung. Their was enough of the Zairai to give a dominant grassy/nuttiness, sweet, mellow, and a nice start to the day--especially because I can look forward to opening a new bag with my next morning sencha.

Master Matsumoto's supernatural green, my first kamairicha and a very nice experience indeed. Brewed it in my 4oz kyusu but thinking I want to try it in the gaiwan next.
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Not drinking it quite yet, but I just put on the kettle for some Yame Gyokuro from O-Cha, this has been quite enjoyable as an easy drinking Gyo.
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Started my day with Shoufuku no haru matcha from maiko...
I wanted to make koicha, but i failed... so i make something beetween koicha and usucha, but it was quite good, actually very good.
Next i will try to make some Uji Sencha Otsuusan from o-cha.

Temple of Heaven - special gunpowder
My new go-to daily tea, picked up 8oz for $5 at my local Super88 yesterday. Today I'm mixing it with some Sunflower (that's a brand name, no actual sunflower in the tea) Jasmine tea from Fujian Import & Export.

First season Ureshino sencha, a bit stronger than usual, keeps me awake really well

Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Finally, a decent sencha arrived at my door today. A gift of a 300gram canister! of Ippodo's Hosen. Very decent, with good balance of sweetness and sharpness. My friend's grandmother went out and bought the tea in Tokyo when asked to buy me a good quality sencha. She made sure to tell her daughter to instruct me on how to brew properly. Very cute and I thanked her for the instructions. Afterward, I brought her into my kitchen and watched her jaw drop when she saw the teaware and teas I have. She had a good laugh discovering I knew something about tea. Good thing the grandmother has good taste! Ippodo must be the most famous tea seller in Japan.

This is a nice sweet and mellow brew, not an intensely veggie or grassy asamushi. Very pleasant. I like veggie, I like grassy, but I also like this soft mellow sweetness, it is ... relaxing, soothing.
Ippodo is very different from most other tea companies I deal with in that Ippodo looks for a consistency from season to season, harvest to harvest, etc. A "brand" taste. And my memory of this sencha is virtually identical to this newly opened bag.
Nice needles, nice asamushi.
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
I'm pretty sure I am having a Gyokuro, though honestly not sure which one, between one of Hibiki-ans or O-Cha's Yame. I am not sure because I lost track of what was in each container.
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Alright this time I am definitely having Gyokuro, and I probably need to find a good way to label some of my Japanese tea Canisters. Any suggestions?

Nice thing about having only a few Japanese greens open, it is easier to keep track w/o having to label washi canisters, etc.AdamMY wrote:Alright this time I am definitely having Gyokuro, and I probably need to find a good way to label some of my Japanese tea Canisters. Any suggestions?
I do however do weird things like use a lighter colored one for lighter steamed, and a darker one for deeper steamed.
However, as you likely know already, I do not pour the tea directly into the canister, that is exposing it to way too much air. So whether I would use a smaller sample tin (as I do) or a smaller bag inside the canister, I do label it. But I just know basically what is in each canister ... and also keep a running "opened" inventory close by.
