SPACE, w@@t!!! Now that is a teacup, right??? Not a chawan...

How much does it hold comfortably?

Incredible pics, really well staged and the crysal clarity and depth is truly remarkable.

Thanks, Chip.

Now I am a little vauge on the destinction between a tea cup or yunomi and a chawan, how large before its used for matcha. Does chawan simply refer to the more bowl-esque shape?

In my opinion it is a tea cup, too small for for good matcha preparation. It holds 8 oz very comfortably, and I guess it could go as high as 10.

Ah interesting... it just looked like a chawan to me, but that's without knowing the scale of the item in the pics. I still want a new chawan though! :(

This might help give you and idea of the scale between it and a chawan used for matcha:

Ah... yes that is quite a bit smaller. Thanks for the side-by-side.

You have to excuse the horrendous quality of the picture. My cell phone is from the pre-cambric period.
What you see in that picture is:

1x 0,13 litre Yixing pot for Dong ding and other medium fermented oolong teas
1x 0,17 litre Yixing pot for heavily fermented oolong
1x 0,17 litre glass pot that I use for Pu Er. Gonna get a Yixing for that as well when I get some more money :p

1x Simple porcelain Zhong
1x Kyusu with cherry blossom motive
1x Cast iron pot designed by the Japanese artist Hisanori Masuda standing on a cast iron stand designed by the same artist.

In the upper left you can see a little part of my thermostat controlled water boiler. I love that thing <3

A better picture of my finest Yixing pot

And one of the Hisanori Masuda pot:

:D Wow, Space! You keep posting more like that and I'm going to have to cancel my cable, HBO & Skinamax! Very nice, I'd hate to use it though. Do you? I'd just sit and admire it while drinking from another cup.

lol, yes, I use it. Though since it's Hagi, I have to be more careful with it. Since Hagi very much embodies the aesthetic ideals of wabi sabi, it would feel almost sacreligous not to use it just out of fear of breaking it.

"Be careful" is the key word for me . . . also, at my house if it doesn't go in the dishwasher it must be disposable! I'd have to save it for special occasions and just stare at it

Keep posting those pot & cup pictures. My tax return is coming soon! More teaware!

I just found these today, after seeing Space's grooovy cup. I have something distantly similar, but not nearly as cool. I got these from a local artist who donated them to a fundraiser.

I have been keeping my home made soap in another. I will have to wash, yes wash, them tomorrow and take a group picture. I have a bowl, this cup and two other cups that are dk green & sienna. hmmm . . . then I'll have to try them out.
