GreeTEAings!

by Catsgurleygirl » Jul 9th, '08, 21:18

Okay, I know that was corny, but anyway, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself--and what better way than by showing you my goods!! I have been drinking tea on and off for about 5 years. I started out really into greens and oolongs, but now I am into Darjeeling, Keemun, Yunnan and Pu-erh, and yes I do still enjoy oolong, but I have found that I like the really expensive ones  . Alright onto the pics, I see have to be careful of my wording; I guess because I am new, I can't use the "P" word because my first post I got slapped with a warning and deleted--how embarrassing! My tea ware is nothing fancy, but it is mine and I enjoy it.

My beloved tea kettle that I got in the Ukraine, I delight in it because it reminds me of my trip and almost every house hold has one just like it, so it is very special to me.

I am tickled to have found this forum, I look forward to learning from and getting to know you all!!!

Thanks! I have no idea what a xi shi is. I forgot to mention, with the exception of the kettle, all the teapots were gifts from my husband so, I don't know a whole lot about them aside from them being Yixing (or supposed to be). I use the black one for pu-erh.

My favorite type of yixing pot.

Xi Shi was one of the four great beauties of anceint China. I believe the pot is named in honor of her breast.
Wikipedia wrote:Xi Shi's beauty was said to be so extreme that while leaning over a balcony to look at the fish in the pond, the fish would be so dazzled that they forgot to swim and gradually sunk away from the surface, birds would forget to fly and fall from the sky, the moon would fade, and flowers would close their petals in shame in comparison to her.

Aha--I am learning new things already! So I enjoy my Pu-erh from a beautiful breast inspired tea pot, I don't think I will ever look at it the same again, it is a nice shape for a breast though now that I think about it.

Heavydoom, I about laughed myself out of my chair when I read your post...The way to heavydoom's heart--buy him teapots!

Wow, we need you here!

The yixing pots are, of course, beautiful, but the kettle is unique. I've never seen one like it. Are you Ukranian yourself? How do you find a husband who know about yixing pots?

Salsero, the kettle style is typical of Ukrainian households. It was a cheap 10.00 kettle that I bought off a drunk shop keeper who was absolutely delighted to show me and tell me all about it--she was very sweet! I am not Ukrainian myself--that I know of (I don't my know biological heritage). I can read a little Russian--and I speak enough to be very polite, like saying excuse me when I hit a babooshka (elderly lady) in the head with my backpack when I was taking my seat on the bus; very rude, like when my interpter said, "I'll be right back", and 1 min later the bus takes off without him on it; and embarrass myself, like when I was telling the lady in front of me the word for stop, that means "stop doing that", instead of the word for stop as in have the bus driver stop the bus. Anyway, I digress. How did I find a husband who knows about yixing? Step 1: put on put on some swanky music. Step 2: Remove your clothes in a sultry manner. Step 3... JK--actually I just have a fabulous hubby that I don't deserve who pays some attention to what his wife is interested in.
