Soft shino that remains me of the texture of an orange. Very nice

Hello,
I've been meaning to post images of this larger chawan for sometime know. It's 3-1/8" h. x 6" dia. and is glazed first with shino and then a copper nuka. This piece was fired to 2345 F in reduction in my gas kiln.

I really like the depth and colors and the crystal growth in the glaze on this piece.

Thanks gingko regarding your comment on the shino chawan, I appreciate it.

Thanks for taken a look,
Michael

I really like the darker clay. It goes nicely with the blue/green glaze.

Margules,
Thanks, I agree the dark claybody is good match for the glaze on this piece and actually contributes to the visual depth of the glaze.

Great Chawan as always Michael. Love the complexity and depth of the glaze.

I like espacially the little red on the top and how the turkish glaze is falling down from the top to the bottom as water coming down in a river with nuances. The dark claybody is like a big stone in that river, very peacfull shape too. :)

Thanks Chip, Littlepig2, Cory and Ginko I appreciate you taking the time to comment here.

I thought I would post a few images of pieces from a little while ago, late 2008. This one is a Carbon Trap Shino with finger wiping.

As always, thanks for looking.

Hello All,

A blizzard through Pagosa Springs, Colorado Sunday, Monday and Tuesday over 24" with drifts to 4+ feet with super high winds, 45-50 mph. The town spent all day yesterday digg'n out. A little sore today.

Another Chawan for fun...glazed with Shino and Wood Ash with Porland Cement that creates the "Patina." This bowl has the feel of very old bone.

Thanks for looking,
Michael
ps, Cory, safe travels (Japan?)

Cory,
The ash is Ponderosa Pine, our ubiquitous pine in this area.

I really like the subtle green cast, flows nice and is great over most shinos.

Please see my PM,
Michael
