Not sure if you know, Chris, but the Houhin (spelled many ways) is usually used for gyokuro which is brewed at rather cool temps, thus a handle is not required.

They are really quite interesting pots. A lot of skill goes into the making of one sice they are so small.

Nope, totally didn't know that! What's the size range for them? So much to learn...

They tend to be gyokuro specific in that size will be small. Tradtionally, gyokuro (precious dew) is brewed in very small steeps in these houjin or similar pot. 2-4 ounces is pretty typical range of sizes.

Such a tiny houhin isn't very common.
Most of them are about 4oz, which is a good size for sencha or chinese greens too by the way.

lol ... CP asked for a range of sizes, I was not saying 2 ounces is common, this is more of a handmade item, like a Bizen piece. But a range could be defined as 2-4 ounces.

Thanks to TokyoB and this post on CDJapan. I had never heard of this site before,
they have some nice teaware!

I had been looking for a smaller kyusu and I just loved the teapot coaster/lid
holder! Here is the sweet little 4 oz Tokoname that arrived yesterday. I really
love the large opening. The photo is deceiving - it is wee.

Well I ordered it that day, which was June 11th and it arrived yesterday.
So not bad. I really tried to not think about it, I'm usually pretty impatient.
It was well packaged and nicer than it looked online, so I'm happy. It's hard
to find a 4oz kyusu. I'm even more thrilled with the pot coaster. :)
