This thread is inspiring - so much beauty. My first post on this thread, so apologies if the camera work isn't up to snuff.
Boulder Tea's Ujihikari Maccha in my new $5 bowl from Chinatown. I don't have any better vessel to compare it to yet, but I think the bowl does reasonably well, considering.

Looks good, thanks for sharing!! Looks like you have one of those larger chasens too.

Victoria wrote:Wow that happened fast! I know you said you soaked them when you got them, but are you soaking before use? I don't "soak" per se , but I set it in the sink and run hot water in it for awhile while I am preparing tea. This seems to slow down the crackling with color anyway. Of course it is personal preference, and some may like to speed up the crackling by not presoaking.
In any case the pics are cool! And the matcha amount seems and looks better.
To be fair, the picture was taken right after matcha, and after rinsing it, and with a little bit of finger rubbing it basically disappeared, theres only a faint lingering that probably wouldn't show up in a photo now.
But Perhaps Matcha is the magic thing to see where the cracks are going to be in your hagi!

Welcome TC!
Thanks for sharing!
...and we are not photo snobs here (at least i hope not
).
(and I hope no one will be put off just because I've sort of gotten into the photo thing).
Your photo is great!
The more who share the merrier! I just love to see the different chawan out there in teahead-land, especially showing off their raison d'etre - delivering that fine elixir!
Oh, btw, found a stand for my new chasen:

(my sweety and I got playful with the setting

Alright I'm cleaning out my bank accounts, and selling everything but the teaware I own.... I'm going to wander around southeast Asia as a tea hermit!
My Ippodo order arrived today with two matcha-s so I tried the lower grade the Ikuyo-no-mukashi. Needless to say I am impressed. I never thought leaf bits in water could taste so creamy, and it was overall rather delicious.

Yay Adam! Ippodo's got some great matcha, don't they?
And your froth looks to be increasing!
Gettin' silly & playful here today with the seekernoyu.
.
Those are ronin ceramurai soft matt black ash glazed chawan alongside a shyrabbit teadust tenmoku and nuka chawan (lft to rt).
And today's matcha (after all the sillyness making faces, but then on to play with action figures), kaoru supreme in a chawan I suspect was originally pilfered from Mos Eisley on Tatooine (not really, it's actually a ronin ceramurai kohiki chawan!
):

Cheers everyone!!

Today a new matcha, Yuuki Tenkei Tori in Seigan Ao Tebineri.
Cheers.

edit/add -- thought I'd post a few comments on my experience with this new matcha (it was one of my Christmas gifts
). This matcha is packaged in a lidded can which also has a very snug inner plastic lid - cool, nice touch. Inside the double lid, a sealed foil bag holds the matcha.
The matcha sifts very easily, and whisks up easily into a great froth.
Tastewise - no bitterness, very, very little astringency - just enough I think to add to a good mouth-feel; nice body. I get no sweetness. Also, no nuttiness, no chocolaty notes - really just green aromas and flavors - this is a straight-up grassy matcha. I get no seaweedy flavors or aromas, very little umami (if any?). As I hold the liquor in my mouth, the flavors remind me of green grassy/leafy notes and maybe a hint of green stem-heart.
So, I'm not bowled over by this matcha in any way, but I am also not put off by it. I still hope and pray to find an organic matcha to rival my two favorites by Ippodo - the wakamatsu and the horai.
Cheers.

Re: Today's Matcha :D (new name, but tea's the same)
Today - Yuuki's Tenkei tori in Rob Fornell black shino.

tasting note - hmmm. Noticed while whisking the tenkei tori, a lovely, soft, velvety berry aroma. Woh.
Nice. It lingers for a bit, but not a super long time. So I snatched a quick sip (before getting into photo-ing) and I also tasted some fruit/berry/floral notes. Very nice. After I'm done with the camera (several minutes) and I sit down to enjoy my matcha - these aromas and notes have muddied into more green, leafy, grassy tones - but I could detect a brightness in these tones that was reminiscent of the fruit and flower notes.
Cheers! - and happy matcha day to all!

Re: Today's Matcha :D (new name, but tea's the same)
I think I have only one chawan left that I haven't shared with you all yet, but not to worry - I have three more on the way!
That's right, my name is seeker, and i have TAD (teaware acquisition disorder
). (chawan-aholic?)
I want to extend a friendly and curiosity-filled invitation to all you matcha lovers out there - I'd really love to see your chawans a' slosh with frothy matcha!
Don't be shy, whisk up some of that emerald elixir and take a pic - then share with us. I just know there are some very interesting and wonderful vessels out there (which is to say - all of them are interesting and wonderful to me), and we'd luuuuvvvvv to see 'em!
(and I just want to say - let's not make this about level of photography or judging or criticising - let's make it about chanoyu and MATCHA and CHAWAN, and sharing and learning and community!)
So -- come one, come all - let's revel in our matcha and chawan in this new year!
(btw - I have A LOT to learn about chanoyu - I'd really love to see some photos and hear about everyone's unique style of chanoyu - and I'm very curious about formal chanoyu).
Cheers!

Yesterday, I delightfully and excitedly received a package from Cory Lum!
Today, the chawan that is a Christmas gift from my sweetheart, Cory Lum's "gingko leaves falling on moonless night" chawan, cradling Den's organic matcha:

Cheers to you all - and a blessing to you:
"May you be filled with loving kindness
May you be well
May you be peaceful and at ease
May you be happy"

Very nice Seeker! Been eyeing those Landry Deese chawans myself.

Re: Today's Matcha :D (new name, but tea's the same)
...and now it is i]I[/i] who am honored Cory.
So I echo deep thanks back to you.
And thanks V - got the Deese about a year ago or so, some of them are a bit funky for me, but this one called me, right amount of earthiness and funkiness, and a sort of looseness. I haven't used it in awhile - it was really nice to hold it again - very nice in hand.
