Wow, I love them both. I might have to be a copycat.Wesli wrote:Got my stuff today!
Sal, you've got to restart it, but once heated, it doesn't take long at all. It's only 1 liter, and the max line is well below that. The only problem I have with it is that it has an auto-off feature designed to keep it from boiling down all the water, but it relies on weight and is really just a pain in the arsche. The max line could also be a little higher...
Tom, there's still sand on the outside, you can just see a lot more of it on the inside. It is actually 110V, it works in U.S.A.
GG,
I would just recommend getting one with larger capacity and without the boil-down safety which is like a spring that pops the kettle up if there isn't a certain amount of water left. The problem is that it pops up while there's still a good amount of usable water left. So you're left to choose whether you want to hold it down for successive boils, or top it off with fresh water between boils, which means a longer boiling time. I'll try removing the safety if I don't adjust to it.

GG,

not to discourage but i used to use those thinner so called stainless steel kettles from china, which i later found out that they use low quality stainless and has a lot of "unpure" or aluminum content in it. i think it does do the job well, but ive noticed a fishy smell that sticks to my yi xing.
this is just my observation....
the smell slowly went away when i finally got a top of the line stainless steel kettle with a tick bottom, i pair it with an induction heater and it was so much better. but nothing beats a tetsubin. it give deeper heat to the water, better tasting too!
the best part about that kettle you have is the pour. with that kind of spout, you can easily "mix up" the leaves while you pour.

Congratulations! It looks even nicer in your pics than in the seller's images posted previously. I hope you enjoy the tea that comes out of it - I'm sure you will.bcos wrote:Got my first kyusu today, EMS is ridiculously fast. Two days from Tokyo to Central New York.
I'd be interested in how well the screen works too, and how easy you find it is to clean.

Yes, it's an awesome thread that can give us many new ideas on how to empty our wallets or max out our credit cards. I decided to layoff for a while after Christmas and was doing quite well until I saw this one posted on Artistic Nippon; I couldn't resist purchasing "just one more". Toru just sent the shipping confirmation and tracking number. These pics are from his website:

The kyusu is engraved by hand by the craftsman Kodo. The kyusu itself is handmade by his brother Setsudo. I've always liked their work, but this is the first one I've seen from them with this theme.

CDS, that is a lovely pot. I bought one from Nada and was very pleased. It is one of my nicer pots.CDS wrote: Here's a little pear shape that I picked up from Nada.
