Re: Official/Different Yixing Show Off Topic!
I picked up a couple pots recently, and one of them has a circular dragonball chop on the bottom. I'm curious if anybody is familiar with this chop...?

Pick up a teapot and some Da Hong Pao tea today in Flushing, NY. 80s Hongni, 40ml. I needed another pot this size. Good for one person.

- Clay: "Wen Ge Lu." It's much bluer in person, kind of a dusky blue-gray when dry in normal light, shiny navy blue when wet, and greenish-teal in the sun. There was a small discussion about this clay in the "my uncle's collection" thread, but this seems to be much darker and bluer than the CR 绿易新壶. Maybe this is just a regular lv ni named after the older clay?
- Size: 90 ml
- Age: Mid 90's factory II
- Pour: 7 seconds, no drips and perfect lid fit.
- From: Jing Tea Shop
- Pairing: Wuyi Yancha
I think the number in the lid is a 6 but it might be a 9. I would show you the bottom stamp but it seems impossible to take a legible picture today.

Adding some variety to the (very nice) shuipings:

Size: 160ml
Material: Duanni
Walls: medium
Pour: fast! 14 hole flat filter
Tea pairing: pu erh that's too young and bitter but I still feel like drinking at that stage

DIY Chaozhou Stove
Experimenting with my new DIY Chaozhou stove.
Except for that nothing comes from Chaoshan:
Kettle: A side-handle Yixing kyusu. Probably a copy of a
similar model from F1, made in the 90s?
The clay looks nice, though.
(Sorry Kyarazen, I would not dare doing this to my late 70s F1 kyusu ...
)
Alcohol Burner + Stove: Lin's ceramics studio.
I will post more pictures later.
For the moment, looking forward to tasting the water!!

Nice, I like the rings around the rim. How do you like the effect on water as compared to other clay kettles?

The water does indeed taste sweeter than in other kettles.
However, after using it a few times, I detected an unpleasant smell probably coming from the alcohol fumes of the burner. The bottom of the claypot is in rather close contact with the flame. I got my alcohol directly from Lin's ceramics studio, but I think it may contain some kind of impurities. Since the clay of the kyusu is rather porous and low-fired, after boiling water in it, I am left with a burning smell. I am considering to insert a metal plate between the burner and the kyusu to prevent the flame from hitting directly the pot (although this will make heat transfer certainly less efficient).
Interestingly, I have also used the stove with another (much larger) clay kettle made in Taiwan and I could not detect this smell. I suspect the reason is that the latter is fired at higher temperatures and less porous.
