Oh!!!!!! That scalloped saucer really makes that set! It is a beautiful gaiwan!
Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
Amorphiss - very nice gaiwan, I like that period -
not really teaware, but my new friends are watching my tea making quite carefully.

Wow! It's not often I find a gaiwan sexy, but that one sure is! It looks like a really great shape too. Nice wide rim to keep the fingers from burning! I would be so nervous using it.amorphiss wrote:You guys have some amazing stuff! Here is my contribution to the thread - a hand painted gaiwan from the Guangxu dynasty (1875-1908). It pours really wonderfully.

Wow, stunning gaiwan...
judging from your location amorphiss, would it be safe to say that you got it from Chaikana? Even though I live in southern California, I'm really miffed that Santa Cruz is still ridiculously far away.

Whoops, I guess my post yesterday didn't go through. Tingjunkie, it is a really great shape. My fingers don't burn and it pours effortlessly. I do get a little scared using it since it is so old and irreplaceable probably, but it works so well and makes good tea, so I use it almost every day for everything I don't use a yixing or cz for.tingjunkie wrote: Wow! Maitre_Tea, exactly, I got it from Chaikhana in Santa Cruz. David there got 3 of these really old gaiwans from an estate sale, kept 2 for himself and sold me the 3rd. It's definitely a cool store that you should visit sometime. Lots of nice old teaware and it always seems to have something new. If you make it up here, you should message me and we can have some tea! SoCal is awesome too though, you have Imen Shan and her amazing DC.

Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
So I bought a Shui Ping from The Tea Gallery. It's some sort of modern Hong Ni or Zhu Ni. It's very high-fired, and it has the best tapping sound of all my pots (which doesn't say much, since I have a small collection). I'm asking them about detailed information from the maker and stuff, since the chop is pretty funky...

When I was checking my profile,it said that this was the thread I most frequently posted in, and since its inception, I have shown off four pieces of tea ware...Anyway, this thing is destined for lighter roasted wuyi, but if not it'll probably do well with lighter high mountain Oolong.

That's one sweet Shui Ping, Maitre_Tea. Was it listed in their virtual store or did you have to ask? There's no teapots there currently.Maitre_Tea wrote:So I bought a Shui Ping from The Tea Gallery.
I got the Yunnan Sourcing bargain basement one and it makes a melodious "clunk clunk' when struck.

Well, even though they had nice sounds, they're definitely no match to Guang's pieces. I had to ask them, but I think they're putting some pots up there soon...of course, I might buy one more from them depending on what tea this pot ends up going toSalsero wrote:That's one sweet Shui Ping, Maitre_Tea. MT - what is the size/capacity? I always have a hard time telling from a photo.Maitre_Tea wrote:So I bought a Shui Ping from The Tea Gallery.

It's about 130 ml ... as large as I usually go for a teapot. I would've bought one of their other offerings, but I have a weakness for Shui Ping.TokyoB wrote:MT - what is the size/capacity? I always have a hard time telling from a photo.Maitre_Tea wrote:So I bought a Shui Ping from The Tea Gallery.

Damn... I'll be there on Friday. I really shouldn't spend any money on a pot right now since I have a vacation and other things coming up. Maybe I'll just have my girlfriend hang on to my wallet while we are there.Maitre_Tea wrote:So I bought a Shui Ping from The Tea Gallery.
