Not a chawan--a small guinomi, but yes, a T. Suzuki piece.

Hi folk, first post to board. My son purchased a Sierra cast iron teapot with loose leaf tea infuser. The booklet says it was made for Epoca in NJ. It's similar but smaller than this one: http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CFoQ8wIwAA#

My question has to do with the restrictions listed in the brochure. It can't be placed on an open flame on a stove, left on a tea candle for more than an hour, or have tea left in it for longer than an hour. It must be dried after every use. Sudden cooling is to be avoided. The cast iron has an enamel coating on the inside.

Is this fragility normal for cast iron tepots?

I've been really looking hard at Bizen wares online, and am going to try to sit on my hands until my trip to Japan next year. If I saw a pot like that one, though, it would be very hard to avoid saying, 'mine, all mine!" and cackling wickedly to myself as I clicked BUY!

dont know too much about it other then its supposed to be over 20 years old. It seems to be trukly iron rich clay. It also seems to enhance the mineral flavors of my yancha as opposed to the porcelain/glazed pots/gaiwans I usually use for yancha. maybe its in my head but it sure did seem like it brought those flavors out and forward anyway
