Wow, Lin Biao

Where did you get it?
I don't own this but found the picture online.

This picture of Mao and Lin Biao was often used on what are known as Communist Party propaganda pieces, everything from ashtrays to wall clocks. This was the first time I've seen them on teaware. It isn't surprising considering that Mao was known to be a pretty serious tea drinker. Many tea vendors sell tea that they claim was Mao's favorite (I'm not sure why anyone would care). I won't get into his other characteristics; basic history aleady covers that.

Not many threads stay 100% on topic, including this one. It is a valid point that they should stay on the subject of tea, but most threads vary somewhat from the original subject. Tea and teaware, like anything else, are subject to many outside forces.

In my opinion, the links I supplied are relevant to tea because the proposed regulations could affect our consumption of it in the future.

Nobody is forcing you to read all the posts, and scrolling past one should not pose any great difficulty. The forum has a moderator who can remove any offending or irrelevant posts. If he chooses not to remove something we don't like, then we must scroll past it. I really don't see the big deal here.

We need to let ourselves out of our tea-closets once in a while. There is a real world outside and it can be a difficult one. Tea should help us cope with it, or divert our attention from it, but not completely avoid or deny it.

This may be true, but I've seen a lot of inflammatory political statements, and on an on-topic board it might be nice if members remembered that not everyone shares the same politics, and it should be appreciated that the ones who have strongly variant opinions have kept them off the board when those inflammatory statements have been made here.

Saying "nobody is forcing you to read the posts" is a cop-out for individuals who don't want to exercise self-restraint.

Your links my be relevant to tea but they are not relevant to "Show off your Pots and Cups". After being an Admin Mod for 3 years on a board larger than this one, I think I do know a little about threads going off topic.

Understanding threads can and do go off topic, is why the first time people tended to ignore and scroll past your post.

May I submit to you that for the 80+ pages of posts we have not gone off topic till now.

Liberating tea chatters from their "tea-closet" is not your job, and it is presumptuous of you to assume it is what we want or need. There are other board forums for debate and discussions such as these.

When a Mod tells you politely, "It would likely be best to move on." You need to
take the hint and not push the envelope until the posts are forced to be pulled.

Peeps: Chill out.

Everybody stop debating the subject and get back to teaware, now! That's an order. Or I'll start throwing my teapots at you. The temptation to say the last word on the subject is great -- restrain yourself, drink another cup of tea, or coffee, if you must.

I have lots of teapots to throw, some are pretty heavy, so be careful.

Discussions on politics rarely end well here unfortunately. It seems to bring emotions to the surface. It would likely be best to move on.

I have seen TeaFriends become TeaEnemies discussing these issues.

Nobody did anything wrong, per se, although there is a no politics discussion rule on TeaChat partially for this reason.
...wow, words of wisdom from one great moderator. One thing I left out is that these discussions also tend to get personal and in your face.

This discussion has officially come to a conclusion.

I will lock the topic if I need to to bring it back on topic. Please do not put me into that kind of a position of locking TeaChat's most posted topic. I will also take the added action of deleting posts...something I have done only a few times in the year as mod.

To say something is easy, to say nothing, show restraint, takes much more effort. Please make the extra effort.

If someone wants to start a topic on tea as it relates directly to politics or vice versa, you can, but I will watch it closely.

It's a little nasty inside -- yellowed with stains.

I'm not sure what they are, or how to clean it. It's only silver plated, which is why it has that colour...

With all of the talk over in the Ao Hagi thread, I thought I'd post my latest Yamane Seigan acquisitions. Maybe this will push a few people over the fence. :)
