I'm not sure which this is. The guy who sold it to me said it was their best for usucha, but not their highest grade which would be suitable for both koicha or usucha. I like the brand. I'll try and post the pic of the can tomorrow.Pig Hog wrote:Thanks. What matcha did you buy? I'm looking at the Chiyo No Midori, which is labelled as being for koicha but I'm sure it could make ousu too; or there's the Kiku No Shiro, which I presume is for usucha but it's not specified.Tead Off wrote:I'm liking the mid-range matcha from Hosuien. I bought this at Mitsukoshi, Ginza. Maybe they have an online service or do a google for Hosuien.Pig Hog wrote:Getting to the end of hibiki-an's matcha premium.
I'm looking for a mid-range matcha from somewhere that I've not tried before. Been buying from hibiki-an lately and I've previously bought o-cha's and yuuki-cha's matcha. Can anyone recommend something good that doesn't break the bank?

Cheers. I'm also not actually sure if they post outside of Japan. I'm going to try emailing them to find out.
EDIT: hmm. Email bounced back...

A session of delish 2015 TPHK from Tea Trekker brewed grandma style in this glass. No matter what beautiful artisanal teaware I test for brewing TPHK it always tastes best in this glass.

Organic chunmei and Chiran meicha, both brewed cooler than usual. Looks like my brewing temps have been too high. These teas taste amazing today. The meicha is sweet cantaloupe, and I get sweet malty bean from the chunmei. I'm ready for the day ahead! I seem to need two sessions of green tea to get moving!

Hosuien Shincha. Can we call it a fukamushi shincha?

Ok, Shisen No Mukashi is less expensive than the two I'd been looking at. I think that's good as it means I can spend less here and still get good quality.Tead Off wrote:This is a photo of the 30g can.Pig Hog wrote:Cheers. Ordering from their website is a little complicated and I can't tell if they'll ship abroad or not. I may leave this for now, but if they have a store in Ginza, I may try to visit in October.

As from their website, it should be info@tea.co.jp.
And to keep on topic, I've had some cheap teabagged houjicha, bought at the Japan Centre. Nothing amazing but does the trick for work!
I find that houjicha can still be enjoyable even when really low quality. I be got a box of cheap genmaicha in my drawer too and it's just unpleasant, to be honest.

Sorry for the confusion, but I bought the shincha and matcha at Tokyu, Shibuya.http://www.tea.co.jp/fs/hosuien/housemac/shisenPig Hog wrote:As from their website, it should be info@tea.co.jp.

It's hard to keep it all straight in my head.

Many people like Ippodo's Hojicha, which is quite inexpensive, but it is very roasted. Fukujuen and Shohokuen make a lighter roasted Hojicha that is very good, but more expensive. It's subjective, so finding the right balance and formula is a fun exploration.

Have been happily exploring my new batch of spring green teas, courtesy of Tea Trekker. This morning I'm drinking their Yunnan sweet green threads at work--definitely lives up to the name! The smell alone is amazingly sweet. Very forgiving brew for a green, at least as long as I don't wander off and forget about it. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Forgot to post about this:
Got 2 tiny yixing pots that steanze had for sale on Teaswap. (Traded some HOR for them). Anyway I used them to prepare organic houjicha from Den's Tea that I have posted about before. Surprise! It was much better. Some notes of spice & hints of other flavor. The tiny pots really brought out the flavor!

Zenhodo's Yame Gyokuro. One of the best gyokuro I've had from last season. Refined, delicious umami. Aroma is intoxicating.

Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Yesterday was an odd teaDay: lots of time in the car, accompanied by some cool-brewed Zhangsu Lake oolong, but these particular brewings were oddly unsatisfying, and the day ended without any hot tea.
So today, it was important to get back on track with a good start, provided by Tsuen Aoi sencha from O-Cha. Ahh. Much better. Warm, vegetal, sweet, just right to help brighten a June gloom gray morning.
