As far as I know, Augie was supposed to send it to me at some point around Christmas. I haven't gotten it yet, but I am looking forward to it, especially all the darker oolongs that seem to be left.

At least you'll (hopefully!!) have the puerh I included for you :)

You know, I should have probably posted a note to offer any help anyone needs with brewing the Shui Xian from Hou De that I put in there. I had some problems with it when I was new, but there are some great deep fruity and floral notes if you brew it well. If not brewed right it's just kind of roasty and flat, although the first steep is generally like that anyway.

The trick is just to use lots of heat - using a yixing teapot is better than a gaiwan. You might be able to get it with the brown yixing gaiwan that's in there, but you'll have to preheat it a few times and brew almost immediately after dumping out the preheat water.

Someone dropped those samples directly in the mail to me a couple of months ago! I thought I posted a thank-you, I am so sorry if I failed to do so. I enjoyed them very much, and it gave me big curiousity to try more puerh... I think I screwed up the brewing on some of them, so I am anxious to play around with more. If there's another pu pass box, I am totally on it. Thank you again for the samples!

Opening of the box on 1/20/2009, with the bubble wrap on top removed.

What came out of the box:

I've tried the Goddess of Mercy TGY from Tao of Tea so far. The wet leaves smell divine! It reminds me of either raspberries or strawberries. I've only gotten through one steep so far, which was decent, slightly sweet and toasty tasting.

I have fifteen more samples that I pulled out to try beyond that one so it should be a fun couple of days.

What is the pretty infuser thingy (as seen in the lower right corner of the second picture)? I like the texture of it and it is adorable, but I haven't figured out what it is exactly beyond something to brew tea in.

Thanks for the update CK!!
No idea on the teaware though.

I see a few things from the original box are still there, surprising!

Thanks for the photos, CK. The box looks healthy and happy. I am also curious about the infuser thingy.

Here are some better pictures of the infuser thingy. It looks like the Korean tea infusers, but it has a saucer unlike most of the ones that I have seen when I searched for Korean tea infusers. It consists of four pieces: a cup, a saucer, an infuser, and a lid. The outside surface is rough textured, matte glaze and the leaves were left unglazed in the original color of the clay, almost like they were carved or scrapped through the glaze. The inside of the cup and lid and part of the infuser basket is glazed with a shiny pale blue-gray color.

As a side note, the other steeps of the Goddess of Mercy TGY had a really nice fruity flavor and reminded me of a Chinese restaurant tea. Though the first steep was mediocre, the second and ones after that were really tasty.

thanks for the update and picts! I've seen some infusers with saucers, but not very many. Pretty cool, I actually like that one!

Yeh, I think it is cool too. Keep it! Clearly someone cast it off and it is searching for an appreciative home.

I put the infuser thingy in there, as there was some extra space in the box, I wasn't using it & figured someone would like it. Feel free to keep it!

Best wishes...

Well, in that case, thank you! I quite like it and think I will get a lot of use out of it. I really like the texture of it. It is quite photogenic as well.

I am currently using it to brew Iron Goddess King from New Century Tea Gallery. The tea is awesome with a thick mouth feel, green, vegetal, sweet taste with lingering reminders of honey and springtime.
