Are you people sure it's not crackle glaze allowed to pool, because I think it may be. I do have a few pieces that have a fairly well defined pool (he creates a little depression in the bowl), but I also have a few pieces that appear as if he's poured the colored glaze down the sides and it has pooled at the bottom. The glaze on the sides is crackled and the same color as the pooled glaze at the bottom, it's just not as thick, and it's not the slip. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe he does both. Regardless, it's very cool. His work makes me think of time, relativity, space, and alien architecture.

I would have guessed the crackle glaze, too, but most of Strommen's green dot things just have the green in that defined area. My ceramicist friend says would be rather difficult to control with dripping glaze. But maybe masters can control things like that better than near amateurs like her. :)

yep and i've been the victim of it a few times, however I never seem to see anything that I would actually snipe out from under someone. The tables need to be turned!

Here's what I've managed to track down since my recent conversion to tea fanatic. Many are from stores local to San Francisco, others online, but all acquisitions have been influenced by the collective teachings of the group here. Thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom of this fascinating and delicious art!

MMaas, thanx for sharing with us, again welcome to the forum.
Stop lurking NOW. Great collection goin' on!

I see a couple of items I have.
I remember looking at the black ringed kyusu
and am very partial to the overall round shape of this style, but still looking.

Its when you bid on a item with less than a few minutes left on it and take it out from the person's nose who was originally bidding on it. Thats what happened with that last auction to me. I checked and they came in with a minute left and over bid me on it. More than a little frustrating but unfortunately it happens.

i think there's a website that'll do that for you. i don't know exactly how, but i know my mum uses it quite a bit to win all her auctions.

Oh, sorry, duh. That Momiji has a Noritake-ness about it. Similar shape to the blue rose pattern I have.

That box very easily appears to be older than the hills and possibly an antique from very far away! Looks like it's made for that shelf. IKWYM about TJM, sometimes you walk in there and find something great and sometimes it's rejected/broken crap from Pier 1.

Love the shelf. Picked it up at a local auction for a whopping $35. I need to start hitting more auctions. Still need to find something nice to store my pu in.

Gorgeous stuff, MMaas! And you've been keeping it from us all this time! Thanks for sharing. Do you actually use the Sakura bark scoop or just admire it? I have been thinking of getting one cause they are so cute.

Well, it was wine. Wine is even harder to store without drinking than Pu. Its a shame they hardly ever use wooden crates any longer.

Yes wooden crates are so great. Used to be that peaches and strawberries even came in wooden crates and flats. There's a small town near here where the major industry is a crate factory ... all they make now are pallets.
