Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)

Had a productive day in the studio. I have been testing new clay bodies for the back of the kiln. I have something along the lines of a bizen clay body. It's dark and rich. It vitrifies at the right temperature and the small test cups I put in last firing do not soak up one speck of liquid. You test for this by weighing the before and after soaking on the triple beam.
I also tested these clay bodies with some slips, glazes and shinos. There is a good "fit" we call it. You want the glaze to shrink the same amount as the clay body. I'm excited about this and I get to use my secret chamber after the flues in the base of the chimney. I get a cone 8 in there as per my last firing. I had one test body that came out too vitrified and the clay slumped! My 25/75 mix is perfect. I made up about 40lbs. of it and have already thrown it. I have teapots, chawans, a teatray, several serving trays, a sake set and more.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post those. It is my birthday today, 54 already, and I'm heading to bed. Rum and coke is tasty
Here are some celadon examples that I took pictures of today when the rain stopped. Even had some peeks of sun here and there. I took as many quick pics as I could when I could.







More tomorrow, if it doesn't rain hard. We have satellite internet and it goes down in a hard rain/clouds.

I own several of Bill's coffee cups in a similar glaze, and they are gorgeous... with a dash of lavendar blended in:


I'm also a happy owner of a yunomi in this same glaze... almost identical to the pictured mug, sans handle. I need to photograph it!

Oh... and did I mention I also got this lovely cup with an aqua floral... gorgeous!

Grats on the Kyusu Sarah! I had been checking his site often and never saw it! It looks great. I have a yunomi in that glaze as well and its one of my favorites.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the Birthday wishes! I had a great day, enjoying what I like to do most. I made a bunch of teaware out of this new claybody I developed. I have included some pics of some of the things I made.

This is a new bizen style clay body I mixed up. There's a mix of stuff.
