We just have different opinions, TO! :D
If you are looking for something interesting I suggest you to try the only fukamushi that Akira is currently selling. THAT is interesting.

Personally, what I am doing is trying to sample what others call good or great as compared to what I already have experienced with what I now call 'my favorite teas'. In this case, Horaido's shuppincha doesn't measure up in my estimation. Of course, you may have a different opinion. Put it next to a temomicha and see what happens.

Fukamushi have lost their appeal to me. There are many good ones. Asamushi is what I prefer and the refined flavors that are possible with them. Thanks for your input.

Matabay Super Premium Gyokuro. 5g/60-70ml shiboridashi. Intense mouthfeel with soft, sweet liquor rolling off the tongue and down the throat. Whole mouth tingling. Lacking umami. Probably would not buy again, but really not bad.

Me too, never liked fukamushi too much, in fact I rarely buy them, but that one is really really different. If you have the chance, buy 50 grams and try some! :D

Yes, but you can also buy the least expensive ones at ¥324 per packet and be duly impressed. I was. :D

Shohokuen sencha, bought as shincha. 6 months old and settling in. Not a favorite but not bad.

Hosuien matcha Shisen No Mukashi.

This is light, sweet and floral. Probably the smoothest matcha I've had to date. It has a very silky mouthfeel and not a trace of bitterness.

This is the less expensive of the two matcha that I bought, so look forward to tasting the Kiku No Shiro

Look forward to hearing about the more expensive one. What was the price of it?

Gyokuro Samurai from TWG. I've been experimenting with this tea that was given to me. Finally, I was able to get something rather good from it when I decided to drop the temp to 50c/2 min in 60ml shibo. Blast off. The intense mouthfeel, umami, and sweetness made it very enjoyable. A big surprise for me.

1620円 for Kiku no Shiro over the 1296円 for shisen no mukashi. These are also sold in 30g tins (for those that don't know).

Taisyou from Hirumaen. Low temp brewing, 50c 90-120sec. Delicate, refined, sits lightly on the tongue and in the throat. Good for 4-5 brews. Not a deep umami type tea. Long finish.

Pig Hog wrote:That's shisen no mukashi. Labelled up as usucha. I was told that they only sold usucha in that store and I didn't see any of the koicha grade matcha that they have on their website. She never mentioned preparing it thick but she probably knew I wouldn't have understood her even if she'd tried.
According to my Google Translate app, they say it is Terayama no Mukashi. Are you sure it says 'Shisen no mukashi'?

Horaido's Miyako no shiro matcha in Shigaraki. Is it my imagination that the Shigaraki clay amplifies the flavor and aroma of this? Yum. :D

I haven't had a decent sencha in years but the more I read about your experiences here the more I miss them; maybe just as a counterpart to my ongoing first flush DJ/chinese oolong diet. With those cold temperatures outside yerba mate doesn't cut it for me these days but a good sencha might be just the ticket.
