Do you happen to know what these symbols actually mean or if there is a difference between the two that you posted? One can find them both in the catalogue...

That is a good tid bit of info! Thanks for finding this out and passing it on!

TBH, I would NOT pass on a kyusu simply because it has a stainless infuser. Albeit, the sasame are much more aesthetically pleasing, but I reach for both w/o hesitation.

Sorry for opening a multiple thread, here is my post once again:

I've been hunting in the internet for quite some time now and browsing the forum, but sadly haven't been successful yet. I'm looking for a (preferably Tokoname or Banko) kyusu to brew all kinds of sencha, also Fukamushi. This kyusu will only be used for me, so a brewing volume of 150 ml is sufficient.
I fell in love with this pot:

Unfortunately, it does have a half-ball screen which would not be suitable for Fukamushi.
Browsing the web I discovered another one by Master Yamada Jozan III:

Probably this one wouldn't even be sold or is not affordable, but one alike would be awesome.
My future kyusu should have a sasame screen and shouldn't cost (significantly) more than 100$.
Can any of you maybe help me to find my "perfect" kyusu? That would be so great.

Stefan, unlike gongfu-ish brewing, a kyusu doesn't need to be filled to the rim to function properly. In fact you may find it works better when only filled to 1/2-2/3 capacity. A 250-320ml kyusu should work fine for smaller steeps and at that size opens up many more options.

The 240 or 270 ml size would be very good. You can go larger as this will provide potentially more diversity.

I usually fill my kyusu 2/3-3/4 full.

A.N. also has nice Tokoname kyusu with Sasame screens.

Just noting sadly that although my first question, about catalog layout and which items had sasame screens, was quickly answered, the second inquiry, asking for the price quote to actually order several items from tokoname.org.jp, has not yet been answered, a week after I sent the reply.

Wonder if they shut down for Cherry-Blossom time?

I own this kyusu by Kenji and although I don't use it much, I have been amazed at how good it is when I have used it. I have found it to be extremely functional and to consistently brew a great cup of sencha. In fact, of about 20 kyusu I own this is one of the cheapest but is also one of the best. It is quite light so is very suitable for brewing top quality Japanese tea.

If the $70 price you mentioned does not include shipping, this falls within your limit. It is offered for $95 including EMS shipping from Japan. The same kyusu is listed on the US site Zensuke with free shipping, but it is significantly more expensive to begin with priced at $129. I bought mine from Japanese Hand Craft along with many other kyusu, sake sets, etc. and I have been very happy with the products and service from this vendor.

I should note, however, that although the description says the capacity is 270CC, which is at the top end of your limit, this is what the vendor calls the serving size. The actual capacity will be a bit higher. I think the Japanese feel it's better not to fill the kyusu all the way, and I agree with them on this point.

Stefan, go to artisticnippon.com. They have 3 kyusu 160 ml in volume up to the rim, ranging from 35-55 bucks. Shipping is around 19 from Japan. Mr. Toru is extremely nice and helpful. Customer service is stellar.

+1 and ditto! I really love this kyusu and use it frequently. It features many things that make it a great kyusu including exceptional function and feel.

AN has it for 75 plus shipping as another alternative source.

This is the one I have from O-Cha... It was around the $35 mark but considering the price the quality is excelent. It was made for deep steamed sencha and has served me well.
