Thanks but also I hate you bagua7.

1. Hahaha, enjoy the pot!
2. Why?

http://www.lifeinteacup.com/teapots Do you mean the pure dicaoqing is not commonly seen? I don't think I've ever even seen a pure dcq in pictures online.
I got both, the one you have from LiTC (excellent pot btw, Huang Long Mt. clay). The gold sand is noticeable in your pot, smoothly spread out on the surface. Here's a newer example of
dcq clay, similar but the "gold sand" isn't as smooth.
The raw clay is very soft and very dark with a blue hue. Taiwanese sourced. Pity is on the big size, 180mL, I wish I had a 1/2 size version of that to try with aged puerh, another impossible wish, like chasing a XIX century pot without having to get a mortgage.

Interesting! I'll have stare at pots more to learn this. I was using the pot for yancha and have recently decided to start using it for sheng pu'er. Every time I did a side by side brew of yancha with this pot vs a gaiwan I always preferred the gaiwan. It seems to bring out more flavor in 5-10 year old sheng than the gaiwan though. I too wished it were a bit smaller! I really like the pot and want to make it look "old" again. This clay won't ever build lots of luster correct?
So just to go back to the clay class, is DCQ clay not a type of zini?

Yes I also use it for young sheng and it shines!

Very true, anything between 85-115mL would be a sweet spot for lone drinkers.
DCQ is the bottom layer (more Yin, darker, purple with hues of green) of the Zini ore with
Tou Cao Qing on the top layer and
Er Cao Qing right in the middle.
Yixing is a bottomless art.

Hi, sorry this is a bit off topic, but I was just wondering…
I have an identical pot to the one Chris418 posted and I’m assuming they’re the same clay. Mine was falsely marketed as benshan lu ni but I was under the impression that it’s really bai ma zi ni. However, bagua7 identified it as zhi ma duanni. I haven’t found much info on either clay, but they seem to be quite similar and the names used interchangeably. Are bai ma zi ni and zhi ma duanni really the same clay? And if not, will mine season differently from Chris418's? I'm already struggling with tea stains but theirs looks like it has a really even patina.

Back to the original topic, if the stains are very persistent you can try gently rubbing with a paper towel with some lemon juice on it
In my experience DCQ can shine pretty ok

Mine took a shine pretty quick. Though to be fair I bought it used, but I don't know how much use it actually did or didn't see. It is a fairly old pot but it was cleaned thoroughly before I bought it and didn't have much of a shine at all at first. That picture was taken after about a month of use, being used maybe every other day for 20 - 40 year old sheng

Mine was new when I got it - but that was about 5 years ago. It is my main pot for sheng, but actually sheng is the type of tea I tend to brew in more different ways depending on what I want to get out of it, so I sometimes use another duanni pot, sometimes a sanded hongni pot, sometimes a gaiwan. Also I drink various kinds of teas other than sheng and during the week I tend to drink tea in the office. So I'd say that pot gets used about 3-4 times per month. You can see a pick of the same pot a few years ago in the Official/Different Yixing show off topic - you will notice that it was already pretty shiny by then.
