You are probably right about the steaming, but one can argue semantics if it contains dust or just very very small particles. Flavor of Miyabi was better than the other o-cha.com tea I ordered but it is not one of my favourites.Ed wrote:Photiou, Miyabi is deeper-steamed than the other two sencha you have there. This is not actually tea dust or fannings, it is just smaller leaf particle because of the heavier steaming. I'm sure you would agree that the flavor is nothing to complain about?

I have a very fine example of asamushi from Maiko and well documented examples of fukamushi...plus everything in between.
They are all endearing in their own way. I had this asamushi this morning and it was stellar. And the leaf is certainly gorgeous.
Most gringos around here have a hankering for the fukamushi as do I.

blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
I don't think it's a question of semantics. Calling Miyabi tea dust is akin to calling the finest matcha in the world tea dust. Tea bags often use tea dust. Miyabi is not tea dust.

Funny, when I bought my first good Sencha, I remember being surprised at the smallness/shredded-ness of the leaf, and thought that must be an indicator of low quality...
But of course I was pleasantly surprised to the contrary! In my experience, the size-quality correlation is true with some varieties of tea, but certainly not all... Of course, if so, matcha would be tea dust as well
