I try to stay away from aluminum for a number of reasons.FoolongChoo wrote:I am all about the Sigg bottles...I ditched my Nalgenes about 6 months ago due to the BPA and also the fact that Nalgene as a company produces cages and restraints for lab animals. Boo, hiss! Sure, if there is a market for it then no doubt a company will create the product, but since there are numerous alternatives, then why not make the choice? Siggs are also great because they have a coating inside that keeps it from retaining the scent or flavor from juice, coffee, tea, etc.
1. It has been linked to Alzheimer's disease
2. Aluminum is not food safe and needs to be coated with something, this coating often times contains BPA (Sigg says its coating does not).
I tend to lean with the that has to be coated with something, they claim its food safe now but BPA wasn't a problem before either. Stainless Steel seems like a good alternative as it does not need to be coated and does not leach any flavors at all.
Not that I mean to be pimping Klean Kanteen, but I emailed them asking about their new line of colored bottles, and got a response back that they have already shipped to retail stores and will be available via the website on the 17th of this month. I plan on replacing all of my Nalgene bottles that day, so if anyone wants to know how they are I'll be sure to post back.

My understanding is that there is a real lack of knowledge about Alzheimer's in general. The aluminum concern comes because Alzheimer patients have deposits on their brain, which may not actually be caused by aluminum cookware/etc in the first place. The fact that aluminum needs to be coated to be food safe is enough to make me look for better alternatives. That being said I believe that Sigg does make stainless steel bottles as well. I would love to find some sort of glass bottle that was durable and could travel but that may be too impractical.scruffmcgruff wrote:Read earlier posts in this thread re: the Alzheimer's thing.
