I'm sampling everything I can get my hands on, to learn where my tastes really lie, and then I'll buy and drink what I truly enjoy... period.

If my budget prohibited my buying strictly what I want and love, I'd spend my money to have more tea more often, rather than an occasional amazing single session. Tea has been a daily staple for me for years, and if I had to go back to cheaper tea to afford to drink it all day long, that's what I'd do.

I agree with you Sarah, middle of the road, learning what I like. I'd choose the larger amount in order to have it longer.

This morning I had Adagio Oolong #8. Yum!

Hey, that first choice didn't say it was cheap junk! How do you know it wouldn't be your new favorite?

But it is perhaps the best Black Tea I have ever tasted, simply stunning... I was skeptical abt the price when I first tried it, but it's fully justified. And 100 grams will make abt 35 brews, so that comes to just $2.50 per cup.

I'm laughingh right now, because I read that and thought,
he's crazy to pay the much for a black.

Then I thought, hey, I'd pay that much for "the best oolong I ever tasted"
too.
:)

This morning in my cup at work - Farmers Choice Baozhong

A company that does community development and management. I am the web developer and have hooked most of the marketing team on loose tea!
Win them over one cup at a time :D

That's about the price of one and half good champagne bottle.
2.5$ per cup only half the price of a good koicha bowl.

Where did you buy this keemun?

Miyabi Shincha just after work.

I would rather have 100 exceptional experiences and am clever enough to make this happen.

Whew!!! Today's been one of those days that makes me wonder where's the "at home" part of being a SAHM! :?: Just now having my first cuppa. Trying the Wuyi Ensemble oolong again. While it's good, the pouchong has been my favorite of the 3 new oolongs I got from Adagio.

For me, I would try to get the best of both worlds & get $5 worth of my favorite tea. Plus I tend to be practical in my shopping so I would go w/the most for the money.

Sal, cool pic today. Don't know if it's the contrast of the brown against the white or what but it's very nice. And I asked hubby (has dealt in antiques for 15ish yrs--hence how I recognized the pattern yesterday) about your cup & saucer in question but he said he couldn't think of anything similar & especially w/o seeing it.

Glad it's a beautiful day!

Can't answer the poll. Is the $5/100g, GOOD cheap tea? or crappy cheap tea? 'cause I'll skip it if it's crappy, and go for the single $5 session that rocks. In fact, I've done that before over at Tao's tea room (although I can't say that my $5 choice really rocked my socks. :? )

Today I'm trying another sample from Joel, and the tea gods are smiling on me (maybe in apologies for all the kicks and jeers of yesterday?) because this one is nice and sweet, and brewed up right. The problem is, I think it's giving me Hayfever! LOL

Ito-En Chiran Kanayamidori. Is this a sencha? or is it Chiran? and what is Chiran? So confused...

Love the cup and photo!!! And the Chiran...had it yesterday...also from Joel.

Chiran is in Kagoshima...I think. It is where this sencha is produced.

I am having the 3rd sample from Joel as I write. It is the Shizuoka Shincha again from Ito En. Very nice...has a pleasant level of astringency...a little remeniscent of Den's Houryoko shincha.

OK...the question...no question for me, I take the $5 superlative session...that is cheap for the best of the best! It would be sencha and would work out to $1 per steep. That is cheap indulgence

I have not had an acceptable $5 per 100 grams or quarter pound tea in years. There is no value in a tea that I will not drink...though it would make a nice addition to the TeaBath reserve.

When I first posted the poll, there were actually 2 other choices. 5 double cheeseburgers from the McD' dollar menu...and Other, where you create your best 5 dollar value. I can see that I made the right choice since it is hard enough for everyone to choose from 2 choices!

But as long as the 100g tea is decent, and can be shared among friends and enjoyed this is certainly worth it as well.

I voted for Single experience, but upon thinking about it I wish I could vote for both.

Here are some pictures of some tea I just brewed up at work for myself and some coworkers.

So, can we assume the 100g of tea is a bad tea? Is it at least drinkable?

Well, $10 I can definitely believe, $5 is a little stretchy... ;)
