There is no flavoring in the TKY.
Are you sure it wasn't one of the Jasmines?
How interesting.. how different things appeal to different people. I love to just deeply inhale the dry leaf of all the oolongs... particularly the TKY, the pouchong, and the tung ting jade. I think the aroma is absolutely sublime. Then, after I brew it, I sit and smell the tea in my cup for a minute or two as I let it cool enough to drink it. How are you brewing the Ti Kuan Yin? That you're having such a time with it suggests that you may be overdoing time or leaf or something. Even if you don't care for it, it shouldn't be this hideous for you!Riene wrote:

You may also have a brewing issue with the Pouchong, or you may just not care for it.

It smells very floral, very jasmine to me, but the tin is the Adagio sampler tin labeled TKY from my recent order. The wet leaves are large, dark green, aromatic. I'm brewing it in my new little Yixing pot-- ~one cup water, boiling water (recommended on the side of the tin), about a level tbs of leaf, about 3 minutes steeping time.
The dry leaf smells good, actually. It's just brewed that I don't like it.

I've not tried the Adagio TKY but I generally equate greenish oolong with floral tastes.
Riene: reducing the water temp a bit could help, TKY with boiling water might be a little severe.
