Kuradashi Gyokuro - have you tried it?

Made from leaves that have not been oxidized.

The Kuradashi sencha sounds odd and tempting. And some pinnacle grade as well.

Pinnacle grades aren't not worth the 50% more money they cost IMO (At least for sencha and normal gyokuro). Leaves are of course very nice, but the taste isn't far better than SP grades.

Yeah, I somewhat had the feeling that it's not going to be worth the price, but it's more that i'm curious as to what the best of the best that they have to offer is like. It's something that I want to try once to know how good they can go. Then for successive teas I'll try the more optimal price ones.

That is exactly the reason why I will anyway order a bag of Pinnacle kuradashi gyokuro.

or you could try some hibiki once, but then you drink Lupicia from then on.

Try wunce ...

Hmmm, Kuradashi Sencha, Buy Once, Pentox and send me a hefty sample!

I have to admit, I have never heard of such a practice. Kinda goes in the opposite direction we gringos choose to travel. Shincha!

That's what I thought at first, and it is rather unusual since that's the first I've seen of it. But that always peaks my curiosity. Half of my brain is saying it's a marketing ploy to sell old sencha that someone left in the storehouse, but the other half of me is saying that it's something not offered by anyone else and could be a unique experience.

At that price though it better be freaking good or else i'm gonna be mad.

Misquoting is against forum rules, don't make me break out the "ban hammer!"

I am glad you are trying it, so you can report back. But hmmm, you like that weak asamushicha, so your review will not help the TeaMen of TeaChat.

To me, send half ...
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

I guess this kuradashi sencha is sencha that is stored the old way (see http://www.ujicha.com/shouhokuen%20page ... anti1.html).
Also Horaido has their top level sencha marked as "aged with traditional way" - so I think it is not a marketing ploy.

I think there are worse marketing ploys out there like selling low-to-mid priced fukamushi as the top level sencha ('just compare the green color' etc.) ...

Personal taste! There is some astoundingly good fukamushi that has been produced with much skill. I think you just need to accept that many people prefer it or like it a lot.

I received my shipment of Kuradashi Gyokuro Pinnacle from Hibiki-an on Friday afternoon. I was not able make a cup until today much to my dismay. The tea itself comes in a 40g bag that is gold with small silver flakes (their super premium teas seem to come in silver bags with gold flakes). The tea itself does not smell much different than the gyokuro premium I have from them. The Kuradashi has long needle like leaves much like the traditional gyokuro but differs in that it is a little less green (looks more dry). The smell is similar.

The taste however is different. The Kuradashi has a much more pronounced sweet flavor and is more "rich" tasting. Keep in mind this is only from the first two infusions. I hope to make more comparisons tomorrow!

Anyone else have experiences to share?
