Oh, I was just teasing. We Canadians only just learned that we've got a federal election coming up... and nobody is exactly happy about it. Frankly, I'd rather be voting in
your election.

I didn't take it that way, Mary R... no worries
Actually, every four years I feel exactly like a species of voteless American, watching the campaign circus with a sense of helplessness and apprehension. In fact, you could argue that everyone on the planet should have at least a fraction of a vote on who should form the next American government! It seems strange that with so much riding on the outcome, it may largely hinge on who can perform the best image spin.

I'm actually in the Electoral College and on record with the Secretary of State obliged to vote for Bob Barr and Wayne Root in the event that they carry the popular vote in Mississippi.
Interestingly enough, this doesn't place me under obligation to vote for them at the polling station.

As an aspiring Gerontologist, I think you should all know that McCain has a 1 in 3 chance of not surving his first term in office. This nut job, Palin, could actually be our President!

Those "Get your War on" cartoons are amazing.
Also, i am not excited about either of the Yokels running for president. Neither candidate has made a significant effort pandering to the Wolrd of Warcraft playing/ oolong drinking crowd!
Just kidding i stopped playing WOW, i have been clean for 4 months (had a relapse earlier this year).

*announces complete ignorance of US politics*
I realise it's democrat or republican competing but are there any other parties and if so do they wield any power at all?
It's always been about labour vs conservative in the UK but other parties are beginning to make an impact.

Well, the Green party has the power to *freak* things up for the Democrats by taking some of their votes (which is rather stupid, since that just helps their mutual enemy, the Republican party), and there are the libertarians who nobody really pays attention to (unfortunately IMO). Other than that there are a few little parties scattered here and there but none big enough to make a dent on the national level.
