Thanks Micki for the updates. You are a good buddy!Shelob wrote:Hello, my name is Micki and for a few days I will be keeping you posted on Shelob per her request. My best wishes to Shelob too. Andy (Warden) has had trouble with collapsed lungs too ... undoubtedly for different reasons. He just had surgery again last week. Is it something about tea?
Yep. I think it is 500 grams. Some of the worst stuff I ever tasted, too! I am hoping it will age into something tolerable. For the moment, the best thing to do with it is photograph it.geeber1 wrote: Is that really the tea in the basket? It's huuuuuuuuge! )

In the Japanese tea ceremony I think incense plays a crucial role in the whole process. I've never burned incense while drinking tea (incense is banned in my school's dorms) but I am intrigued by it, because the subtleties of the incense could enhance the tea drinking experience though. I would think, however, that the incense could not be too strong, as to not overpower the tea's own aroma

That sounds bad. I hope we'll see Shelob back on the forum real soon. She's become a valued contributor very quickly.

A tip for those who find incense overpowering - I frequently break off and use only a piece of a stick when all that I want is a faint waft of scent. There's no rule that says you have to burn a whole stick at a time. (Of course, this is a bit trickier if you use cones!)
Incense was/is used in Japanese tea ceremony primarily to cover the scent of the charcoal that's used for heating the water. You tuck a ball of kneaded incense (nerikou, used in wintertime) or a square of wood (usually byakudan a.k.a. sandalwood - summer) into the ash, close to but not ON the lit charcoal, so that the incense warms slowly and releases a gradual, subtle aroma into the room. In my experience, the fragrance is released and doing its "cover-up" work prior to the arrival of the guests.
My tea sensei usually skips this step altogether - mainly, I think, because we have an electric heater and therefore there is no charcoal aroma to be hidden. There is an actual hollow in the eletric heater where the incense can be inserted, however, when you wish to do so.
I understand that there is a specific temae or tea procedure that involves incense, however I haven't learned it... yet!

I just have had my Credit Card Number stolen again - this is the second card in two weeks. Very frustrating! Especially this one because I have all my household utility bills tied to it. Now I have a lot of work to do. I do have to give kudos to the card companies for catching these fraudulent charges, but still I have to wonder how my number is getting out there. Oy.
In my cup this afternoon - FLT Farmer's Choice Baozhong.

Wow, what's with all these bad things happening to everyone these days? Hopefully it's a seasonal thing that'll go away.Victoria wrote:I just have had my Credit Card Number stolen again - this is the second card in two weeks. Very frustrating! Hope that you manage to keep your credit card number safe from now on and that it won't cause you too much trouble this time around

Hey! Skye is just overwhelmed with all your kind words and wishes for happy, speedy healing. I just read them to her over the phone. Will be spending time w/her tonite for a while, maybe I will print them out for her, that would be nice.
If you would like to send cards, she asked that you send them to the following address: Lori Pataky 610 Daniels Farm Road Trumbull CT. 06611
According to her she will be leaving the hospital in a day or 2
so this address is the best for now. She and her mom will be staying there for a day or 2 until off to PA, then we will give you that address
Guess she is anxious to see your cards. She said - "send me tea!" haha, I believe she was only kidding
And yes, perhaps I could be persuaded to become a Teachatter too! I'll hopefully check in tomorrow and thank you all from me for being so kind so quickly to Skye.

Sorry to hear that! Just keep sending me your card numbers as you have been doing, and I will continue to try and keep the thieves at bay.Victoria wrote:I just have had my Credit Card Number stolen again - this is the second card in two weeks. Golden Monkey is one of my faves from Adagio. I have it 3 to 4 days a week. Maybe one day they will offer up an "imperial" version.caligatia wrote:Poor shelob! Best wishes!
I got two tea-related packages today: an order from Adagio, and a Finum brewing basket for my teapot. The golden monkey opened up so nicely in the basket, and had enough flavor to give me a very good second infusion. I think I may try a third, just to see what happens...
