I'm always up for a new piece of teaware if it presents itself. If it doesn't seem to jump out at me I'm really hesitant to buy mainly because I already feel like I have everything I need and maybe a little excess that I don't use enough right now
Fuka and assam today.

Sencha Premier a little earlier.
Currently, Sencha Karigane. This is really good. I had this leftover from the 2007 harvest in my TeaFridge. I think it aged amazingly well. It is a little mellower, but it is also sweeter, outstanding.

Pretty high brow stuff you are sipping, partner.
I think it sounds better than what it is. It was a gift and there's no telling how old it is. It's kind of bland for my tastes...

True...

but I've had some flavorful greens and this isn't one of them.

As I started to drink matcha this year, I bought also "some" matcha related teaware.

Chawan, 2 chaire, 4 chashaku .... and a chabako.

Gaiwan were new to me this year. I need a bigger one, though. 4oz is too small.

Olivier, that is absolutely gorgeous...so says my sister as she is explaining your photo to me. I also just started w/macha this year. Could you give me recommendations on the best place to buy a 'macha set'? Doesn't necessarily need to be 'high end' in cost. Thanks

I would like to know where you got that one as well. I am looking for a set as a gift.
While I'm sure there is better out there, I really like O-Cha's products from what I have seen so far.
If you really want to do it cheap, just get the chasen. Use a bowl, a teaspoon, and whatever water heater you currently use for tea. It won't be authentic, but it will help you decide if you really like matcha before jumping into an expensive set.

Ippodo starter set. Even with the shipping, the quality of the tools and the matcha can't be beat anywhere that I've seen.

I know that even with the shipping it's a good price for a kit, but that shipping makes me cry and die a little inside.

I hear ya. I've needed to place an Ippodo order for a couple of weeks, but keep putting it off because it will cost me $18 shipping, just for tea! The amusing thing is that even with the shipping, the order would cost less in total than ordering comparable matcha from anyone else. Ouch.

Yeah, I dunno what it is, but I'd feel better paying more for the tea and less on the shipping. It's just an oddity of mine I guess. I should put in an ippodo order one of these days...

+1, I think it is good marketing to advertise low shipping costs. I have put off ordering from Ippodo for this reason so many times.
We would rather pay more for leaf than think our moneys are going to postal services.
