BYOT! Enter TeaChat here, you never know what you may find!

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I am awaiting some Chai samples from Geek and Chamekke. I wondered, how many TeaChatters have either had or prepared Chai?

I've had chai before and its pretty good. It's its own little world of tea though, and a bit of a pain to make imo.

Today: ToT Ceylon Silver Stripe again. Almost done with it so i'm probably just going to try to finish it off.

I had black tea with added milk once or twice, hated it so never got to trying a real chai...

In my cup - Long Jing brought by my friend from her trip to China.

ahh, the ol' milky chai that alex and his droogs loved so much...
I've had it many times, and prepared adagio's version.

It's my birthday.

I forgot to mention that you can occasionally find "Chai" made with soy milk in a 2 qt carton by Silk. It is still a little lacking in spices from my perspective, but it is a pretty tasty lactose-free treat.

Charlotte... if you are enjoying the greener oolong taste, Adagio's Oolong #18 is really nice and a decent price too. I also enjoyed Tung Ting Jade Oolong from SpecialTeas... a good value as well. Both are well worth trying.

Sarah
Sarah - thanks for the tip. I don't think I've tried that one yet. I'll go add it to my wish list.

I've had Chai, usually from Starbucks. When I make it myself, I usually make it with bagged tea though. I would be interested in making Chai from scratch though...does anyone have a good receipe?

I've had some cheap Chai from someplace. Can't drink it since I'm lactose intolerant, but I will have to try it with soymilk as suggested above.

In my cup right now is some yummy Sencha Fuka-midori from Den's Tea.

I like well-made chai, particularly with lots of cardamom in it. An acquaintance from Scotland is currently visiting San Francisco, and had this to say about chai latte, which is a very popular drink in the Bay Area.

Right now I am drinking Adagio's hojicha.

Once in a great while I'll drag out my French press, drop in a large scoop of generic CTC Indian-grocery-store tea, a few cardamom pods, peppercorns, broken up cinnamon sticks, and cloves. I brew this for a bit, squoosh the plunger down and mix the resulting brew with hot milk (about 2 parts tea to 1 part milk). It's not how the Indians do it, but it's pretty good.

Right now I'm enjoying a treat that just came in the mail: Classic Roast TGY from The Tea Gallery. Toastedtoads commented on this a while back in the oolong forum and I was curious enough to order some. It's very good and I would definitely order it again. It is pretty seriously roasted. I like that, but I can see where it might put some people off.

You pretty much have to cover the unruly flavor of chai with honey and milk - a practice I am not too fond of. I prefer tea without spice.
